The Union Pacific viaduct at Lyons Ferry carries traffic headed from Portland OR to Spokane WA. This line branched off from the Portland-Ogden line near Hermiston OR and follows the Columbia River for a ways into Washington State. The line passes to the east of Burbank and runs along the south side of the Snake to Lyons Ferry. From Lyons Ferry the UP heads ustread along the Palouse for a ways. The UP built a high viaduct at Lyons Ferry because Palouse Falls on the Palouse Piver is just a few miles upstream from the mouth of the Palouse at Lyons Ferry. The viaduct is located on the downstream side of Lyons Ferry.
