Note: I still get asked for Chum patterns every now and then, which shows that the species should not be overlooked as a game fish. Because they are aggressive and take a fly readily, they have become a very popular fish for fly fisherman. Chum Salmon runs begin around June in Alaska waters. They run from early September through January in the Northwest, depending on which water you fish. The Chum Salmon Slammer is another developed by was developed by Oregon guide Rich Youngers and displayed on his Creekside Angling website. He reports it as one of his favorite Chum Salon patterns. The color is probably the most popular and successful color for chum salmon fly patterns.
