Leons Fritz "Poacher"
Originated and Tied by Guthrie Fly

Leons Fritz Poacher

Name Leons Fritz "Poacher"
Category All Salmon/ Trout Species & Grayling
HookKamasan Classic Lure Extra Long, Size 8 (Or Salmon Hook of your Choice)
HeadFirst Fitted with Gold Bead then a Red Plastic Bead Behind. Then apply lead wire along the rest of the hook shank (This is a heavy fly meant to get down to the fish) Now tie a piece of Silver Ribbon on the lead wire.
TailA good portion of Black Marabou Turkey with a few strands of Silver or Pink Crystal Hair (Preferably) Silver, this makes up the bulk of the body with the Marabou, then wind on Black thread to get even body shape.
BodyHaving completed latter stages of the body, now wind the silver ribbon and tie off at red bead, now apply only two (2) turns of Lureflash Mother of Pearl FRITZ just behind the red bead and tie off. I just put a little super glue on the thread. Now just trim the Fritz slightly as if kept long it with cover up the silver and black flash on the body (This is important in my opinion)
CommentsThis is one of my most favourite and most productive of fly patterns on both still water and river fishing and tends to catch all species that are lying deep in cold water. (You really ought to try this pattern)
Fishing TipsAllow to sink, then retrieve in short jerks, when on the surface PAUSE before recasting (Many times the fish will take it when you pause on the surface.!)

This pattern was originated and tied by Leon Guthrie of Galashiels, Scotland.  Leon writes about this fly, "Absolute beezer of a flea this one! Catching a lot of back end salmon left in our River Tweed. I dear say its got that Butcher look about it, and appropriately named to."

You can see many more flies from Leon by visiting his page on this site, The Flies of Leon Guthrie.
