This fly can be tied in a variety of colors to match conditions and preferences.

Instructions:

  • Wrap thread to just before bend of hook and tie in brightly-colored Yak Hair or substitute. Tie about 4-6 strands of matching Krystal Flash on both sides of the tail. The tail length should be approximately the same length as the hook shank.
  • Tie in matching Crystal Chenille and wrap forward three or four turns.
  • Next tie in the Golden Pheasant tippets. Splay the tippets to lie on both side of the hook and imitate eyes.
  • Tie in the matching saddle hackle tip first, then tie in a length of matching brightly colored chenille.
  • Wrap thread forward, then wrap chenille to form body. Palmer saddle hackle forward over body and tie in.
  • Tie in a symmetrical clump of matching brightly colored marabou for the wing. The marabou should not go beyond 1/4 inch past the hook bend.
  • Tie in two matching mallard flank feathers over the marabou wing. They should not extend over 1/4 inch before the end of the marabou.
  • Tie a neatly tapered head, whip finish and apply head cement.
