Huguenot Marketing Club Home Page

Marketing Education at Huguenot High School is designed to attract and prepare young people for entry-level jobs and for advancement to management positions in marketing firms. Some prepare for professional careers as teachers of marketing education.

Distributive Education in Virginia began as a program to train adult retail employees in Waynesboro in 1937. The first D.E. classes for high school students in Richmond began in the mid-forties. Virginia's D.E. program, which is rated among the best in the nation, is an example of cooperative training requiring the joint efforts of the school, distributive businesses, and the communities. In 1986 the name "Distributive Education" was to "Marketing Education." Marketing Education is offered in all Richmond high schools. The importance of the program is underlined by the fact that a large percentage of all persons employed to work in some enterprise in the field of distribution. The main objectives of Marketing Education are to help:
  • Social intelligence, a demonstration of one's confidence, poise, manner, and communication skills in a social setting,
  • Leadership development, the opportunity for students to develop and practice leadership skills,
  • Vocational understanding, the comprehension of the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed for success in one's chosen career, and
  • Civic consciousness, an awareness of and appreciation for activities in ones community and the role of each citizen in these activities.
