Rudy Hernandez has been in ministry for over 50 years and RHEI is among the longest existing Evangelical Organizations in the United States.

MOVING FORWARD IN OUR SERVICEby Rudy A. Hernandez
With this I bring to a close one of the most exciting and humbling chapters of my life. I am forever indebted to the Lord for allowing me to be a part of this historic series of events. I thank all of you who prayed us through to the end. Time will tell that this is one of the greatest contributions made to Southern Baptist life in this century in trying to reach America for Christ.

ANOTHER HISTORIC EVENT was the National Ethnic Celebration at First Baptist Church of Dallas where over 1300 persons met to celebrate their ethnicity. Flags depicting the people groups among whom we minister were displayed. A message by Dr. Simon Tsoi on what we believe, with a response by Dr. Paige Patterson representing the six Seminaries, another by Russell Begaye on who we are, with a response by Dr. Bob Record representing the new NAMB, and another by me on where we are going, with a response by Dr. Morris Chapman President of the Executive Committee of the SBC rounded out the program. The group then participated in a walk from FBC to the Convention Center as an expression of gratitude to the Lord for bringing ethnic America to where it now is and thanking the SBC for its unselfish involvement in seeing it come to pass.

In addition, the Hispanic Baptist Convention met in Corpus Christi. I have been in attendance of this Convention 50 years, the Baptist General Convention of Texas for 50 years and the Southern Baptist Convention for 42 years. The times I have served as an officer of each, participated in the programs of each and the fellowship enjoyed at each one is fulfilling indeed.

It was just prior to the Hispanic Baptist Convention that I participated in two events in two days, one the beginning of a new home and the other the beginning of residence in the heavenly home. One a wedding, the other a funeral. Both of these were within the J.L. Stewart family. Brother J.L. and Virginia Stewart and the other members of his family have served faithfully as members of the Board of Directors of RHEI. He presently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Board. His granddaughter Tamara, daughter of Directors Larry and Rosemary Stewart was married to Brad Thadin.

Across the street from FBC, Rockport, Brother Larry's daughter's body, Janelle, was lying in state, to be buried the next day. She went to be with the Lord, June 20, 1997. Just before her departure, she requested that I preach at her funeral and that the service be evangelistic. The music was to be warm and happy. We tried to comply. The Family Life Center was filled to capacity and Christ was glorified. Our sincerest sympathy goes to the Stewart Family. A part of our lives has been graduated to a better home.

We, again, express our joy and sincere condolences to the Stewarts and our commendation for the matter in which they handled themselves through such difficult days. Please pray for the family.

As this is written my wife and I are in Vancouver, Canada participating in the General Council of the Baptist World Alliance. It is such a blessing to be able to share with leaders of Baptist Conventions and Unions from around the world as we seek to bring Christ to a sin-sick, dying world. Thank you for your prayers. If you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, this is an excellent time for you to receive Him: 1. Admit you are sinner. Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God." 2. Ask God to forgive you and confess your sin to Him.Romans 10:9, says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" 3. Ask Jesus to come into your heart, by faith. John 1:12 says, "But as many as received him, gave he the power to become sons of God."
Salvation is a free gift from God, because God paid the price for you by giving the life of his only son on the cross so that you might be saved. God's love for you is immense. God loves you so much he surrendered the life of his only son for you, even when you did not know him. God did not hold back...He gave His Son for you. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten so, that whosoever believeth in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life." Repeat this prayer, "Lord Jesus, I know that I am sinner. Forgive me of all my sins. Come into my heart."
If you have prayed this, let us know. We will be glad to help you in your new walk with Christ and we welcome you to the family of God. Our family. God Bless you.

A Word of Gratitude for Your Support

We thank each of you for keeping us in your prayers. Since the Lord is so good to us and grants us so many great opportunities for service many believe their help is unnecessary. This could not be further from the truth. Brother Rudy is donating his time to RHEI and receives very little financial benefit from your gifts. Please be assured that most of your contributions will go to the Mission field wherever RHEI ministers. No more than 35 people are in touch with us to let us know of their prayers and in most cases contributing a love gift either regular or occasional. If you cannot contribute financially but are keeping us in your prayers, please let us know. It will be a blessing to us just to know we are together in this worldwide ministry.

"A New Voyage"

This edition of BUENAS NUEVAS is PAUL GARCIA'S maiden voyage as Director of Marketing for RHEI. Already he has prepared, in addition to this newsletter, audio and videotapes and other materials for distribution. We thank him for his dedication to this task. Our thanks to him are in order. Implementation Task Force Concludes its Assignment:

On Thursday June 19, 1997 the ITF completed its assignment, the North American Mission Board was born and the ITF dissolved. What a delight to see the unanimity in the Southern Baptist Family as the report was given and the new NAMB came on the scene.

Dr. Bob Reccord who had led the ITF through most of its work was unanimously selected as the President of the NAMB. As Chief Executive Officer of the NAMB he will lead in what we trust will be the agency that will lead us in taking the message of Christ to the entire nation.

PRAYER REQUESTS

Please pray for brother Rudy, as he is involved in two of our educational institutions. He serves as President of the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary Alumni Association in Texas and is in his 25th year as a Trustee of Howard Payne University. Although his financial contributions are small for each of the above, he participates with joy and requests, that all that can, assist these and other great educational institutions as they prepare students for spiritual service as well as for secular market-place. Pray for president Dr. Kenneth Hemphill at SWBTS and for the new president at HPU Dr. Rick Gregory and for Dr. Don Newbury who has been named as Chancellor of HPU.
