The Iowa TV Webpage

This site is devoted to TV in Iowa. Please go to the forums and tell me what you think. Here at the Iowa TV Webpage, we try to bring you news about television in a quick and timely manner.

Cedar Rapids/ Waterloo/Dubuque:

KWWF:
1-21-03
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that KWWF/22 (Waterloo) has signed on with the Shop at Home network, paid programming, and "I Love Lucy." The station plans to begin carrying UPN programming this spring.

KWWF:

1-5-03
KWWF/22 (Waterloo) is occasionally on the air testing and hopes to begin regular 24-hour broadcasting by mid-December. The station will operate with 500kW from a site in Waterloo, so it will not serve Cedar Rapids over-the-air as the other two Waterloo-licensed TV stations do. They are having difficulties with their transmitter. They hope to get the problem solved early next week and start programming shortly.

KFXB:
10-14-02

The Dubuque Telegraph-Herald reports that Dubuque will be losing its only locally-produced TV newscast. The report says KFXB/FOX40's 5 and 10 p.m. newscasts on will end October 25, while a 9 p.m. newscast originating in Cedar Rapids and airing on both KFXA/FOX28 (Cedar Rapids) and KFXB/FOX40 will start shortly thereafter. Channel 40's news department was established when the station was an ABC affiliate; the station was later sold and paired with channel 28 to simulcast FOX.

KWWF:
10-02-02
In an apparent attempt to get on the air before their construction permit expires, KWWF/22 (Waterloo) has applied for facilities of just 14kW at 19m, transmitting from Waterloo. KWWF must sign on by November 29 or will never get on the air. The current CP for the station calls for 5000kW at 610m from a site between Waterloo and Cedar Rapids. The station is expected to carry UPN programming.

KWWL:

8-7-02
The Waterloo Courier reports that KWWL-TV co-anchor Bobbi Earles will leave the station to accept a job in the development office at her alma mater, Loras College in Dubuque.  She has agreed to stay at KWWL until her contract expires at the end of the year.

KCRG, KFXB:
8-7-02
Diane Pathieu has moved from KFXB/FOX40 (Dubuque) to KCRG-TV/9 (ABC, Cedar Rapids), where she's now an anchor/reporter.
Des Moines/Ames:

ALL:
1-3-03

KDSM/FOX17 (Des Moines) has completed an antenna height increase from 462m to 612m, with a slight power decrease from 3110kW to 3030kW.

ALL:
11-16-02

DISH Network CEO Charlie Ergen announced on his monthly "Charlie Chat" Tuesday that Des Moines stations will be offered beginning November 21. Stations in the market are WOI/ABC, KCCI/CBS, WHO/NBC, KDSM/FOX, KPWB/WB, KDIN/PBS, and KFPX/PAX. All of the stations except KFPX will likely be carried, since DISH does not carry PAX affiliates in other markets. Anyone in the Des Moines market, which covers most of central Iowa from the Missouri border to the Minnesota border, will be able to subscribe to the package.

WHO:
11-16-02
WHO now has a new news producer.

KCCI:
8-31-02
KCCI-DT 31 is now on the air.

Sioux City:

K65HI:
10-14-02

Pappas Telecasting has received a construction permit for a low-power/translator station on channel 65 in Spencer, to operate with 20kW. The callsign K65HI has been assigned to the facility. Pappas also has a CP for a 10kW station on channel 53 in Storm Lake. In applying for the stations, the company did not specify which station would be rebroadcast, but the company does own Sioux City FOX affiliate KPTH/44. (10/11/02)

KTIV:
9-23-02
KTIV-DT 41 is now on the air.

10-25-02
