Intro to Tameress

Midi playing: Labyrinth Theme

Tameress is a religion somewhat resembling the ancient Egyptian religion. Other religions are Kemetic and Tameran. Tameress has deities broken up into pairs, according to domain. The duties of these deities do vary from the duties they had in ancient Egypt. These duties arise as only a small pantheon is used in Tameress.

The pantheon, as stated above, is broken up into equal pairs; a god ruling equally with a goddess. These pairs are: Ra & Sekhmet, Anubis & Bastet, Temys & Ka Terri, Thoth & Wadjet, and lastly, Khnum & Korakhet. But, who are these deities?

Ra: Ra is the king and father of the gods. He brought the inanimate world and his fellow gods into existence. He is depicted as a man with the head of a falcon. He wears the sun disk in his crown, protected by a uraeus, or cobra. Ra is also the god of the sky and it's heat. He is the god of daylight and, in Tameress, a god of warlike capabilities. He is a very honoured and respected god and well He should be. Ra can be known by other names. The most common are: Amun-Ra, Ra-Harakhty, and Ra-Khepri. His sacred color is gold and orange.

Sekhmet: Sekhmet is the queen of the gods, though not a consort of Ra. She is a member of, what Tameress call, the Gods' Council, made up of the Mighty Three. Sekhmet is the Council leader and the " Crone" of sorts, as well as the head of the Mighty Three. She is a war-goddess and is very just. She is the goddess of justice, punishment, and law. She is also a goddess of medical healing. She also controls the heat of the sun, and it said to be the eye of the sun. Thunder is said to be her roars against the enemy. She is depicted as a lioness with a headdress with a sun disk and uraeus upon it. She is also known for wearing red dresses, and sometimes armour. She is a very frightening but respectful goddess and heads the Gods' Council with a firm fist. Her sacred color is red and yellow.

Anubis: Anubis is the god of death and is a King God of men and mortality. He is also a symbol of fatherhood, being a loyal and loving god. He is depicted as a man with a jackal's head, and often a headdress of some sort. As stated before, His most popular role is that of the mortuary. He is the god of embalming and the dead and all funeral procedures. He is also a guide. He not only guided souls to the afterlife to be judged, but he also guides living souls. However, his teaching is very tricky and cannot be taken for granted. He, even though He has a love for children and His consort, is a god of independence and is a god of sexual activity. Anubis may be a King and Father god, but He has His childish side too. He is a god of pranks and trickery. He loves children and He loves to have fun. Sometimes you can teach an old dog new tricks. His colors are black and dark blue.

Bastet: Bastet is the consort of Anubis. She is depicted as a lovely grey or night-black woman with the head of a black cat. She wears a green dress and often carries a sistra, or an ancient Egyptian rattle. She is the goddess of birth and Motherhood. She, like Anubis and Sekhmet, is a member of the Gods' Council and helps Anubis and Sekhmet lead it as a member of the Mighty Three. Bastet is also a goddess of emotional healing. As a mother goddess She is also a goddess of dependancy. This type of healing is of that done by taking a relaxing vacation or massage. So, she is kind of like the goddess of our modern day health spa. Bastet is very patient and fun-loving, though She often enjoys a relaxing day in a warm area, like most cats. Her colors are purple, faded colors, and baby blue.

Temys: Temys is the first-born son of Bastet and Anubis. He is depicted as a night-black man with the head and a tail of a black fox. However, Temys is not only known for this form. He is a god of wide open spaces and of lakes and oceans. For this duty, he can also be depicted as a man with the head of an otter. Temys, in either form, but in the fox form mostly, is a god of free spirit. He is almost always naked, sometimes dressed in a very short, torn kilt if need be. He is a god of nudity and anatomy as well as adolescence. He is the god of the hunt and of free-spirit. His colors are brown, grey, and white.

Ka Terri: Ka Terri is the daughter of Anubis and Bastet and the twin sister of Temys. Ka Terri is portrayed as a very slim and beautiful young maiden with the head of a cheetah. She is the goddess of the chase and mischief. She often wears a very short blue dress with wide sleeves. She is the goddess of grace and speed as well as music, beauty and dance. Her equal, other than her brother, is the hare or rabbit, which she believes is one of Her sacred animals. Swans and ducks are also sacred to Her as well as the cheetah itself. Her colors are gold, blue, white and pink.

Thoth: Thoth is a very wise god. He is the god of reading, writing, wisdom, and mechanics. Thoth was once a god of scribes and has adapted well to changing times. He is depicted as a tanned man with a scribe's kilt as well as a scribe's palette. He bares the head of an ibis, a bird with a long beak, and his neck is often covered by a headdress. Thoth is a god of education and benefits not only students, but teachers as well. His colors are beige, green, and peach.

Wadjyt: Wadjyt may have other names and spellings, such as Buto or Wadjet. She is the goddess of herbalism and magick. She is depicted as a woman in a light blue dress, most often transparent with a cobra's head. Sometimes she is also shown as a cobra with red wings and sometimes talons. She is a goddess of healing and of poisons. She is also a goddess of knowledge and loves new things, though She is most often the old fashioned-goddess, being a goddess of ancestry and history. Her colors are light blue, and green.

Khnum: Khnum is a god known as a very built tanned man with a ram head. He is the god of the arts and pottery. These arts include cooking. He is a neutral god and a god of fertility amongst agriculture. This means he is the god of farmlands and crops. He is also a god of herding animals. He acts a lot like a grandfather figure, giving him a domain over the elderly. Every hear the phrase " That old goat?" Khnum loves children, more often children 10 and under. His colors are tan, and clay red.

Korakhet: Korakhet is, like Khnum, a neutral deity. She is the goddess of the seasons. She is portrayed sometimes as a woman with the colouration of a tiger. Other times she may have the head of a tiger. Sometimes she is naked, while others, she wears a transparent white dress. She pays attention only to her duties and more often refuses to leave her heavenly sanctuary for reasons other than her hygiene.

Sobek: Sobek is a crocodile-headed god of swamps, mud and muck, and anything pretty much relating to the bunch. He is sometimes portrayed with a crocodile's tail as well. He is neither good nor evil, but watches over his realm with a careful eye.

Heket: Heket, is Sobek's marsh twin. She is a frog-goddess ans, so too, is a goddess of swamps, and the likes of which. Tameress sees her as a goddess of contentment, as well as Bastet, and a goddess of mystery. Haven't you seen that new age frog craze?

This is a brief introductery to the gods and goddesses of Tameress. Hopefully this will make your learning experience easier.

What does it take to become Tameress? You need some type of teacher. I say some type, for I didn't have a Tameress teach me. I was taught by my patron god.

Tameress requires a lot of devotion and hard work. But, it is very worth it. Magick is a part of the religion, but it is not the most important part of it. If you're in it just for the magick, get out. The magick most often used in Tameress is magick one has to earn. Deity Magick. This means the magick is not cast directly by yourself. Instead, the magick is prayed for and the deities take care of it, if you are deemed worthy of the request.

I've heard many people wish they could shoot fire from their fingers or make someone love them. But, you don't need to shoot fire from your fingers. So, why bother? Your folly may end up being the extra weight on your heart. As for love spells, forget it. Love Spells are Forbidden. The only spells allowed to be cast by you are spells of neutrality or for the better of you as well as others.

Rituals and prayer are a very important part of Tameress. This allows the deities to recognize you and become familiar with you. Sometimes this is for the bettere, sometimes not. It depends how you display yourself to them. Are you honest with them? Decietful lying adds weight to the heart. Remember, the most important thing to remember in Tameress is not just yourself, but devotion to the deities. They are what makes Tameress go round.

I find insence to be the best stuff to work with. Insence has been used for centuries in rituals. The ancient Egyptans burned it faithfully in their temples. However, to each his own. Also, I find relaxing or meditation music to be helpful in sending the soul out with a prayer, or releasing the soul for better ritual. But, as before, only you can decide what works best for you. It may also depend on your birthdate or your particular god. Such as, I'm an earth sign by birthdate, and my patron is Anubis. This would make insence a perfect thing to use. One may born as a fire sign and may want to extend a prayer or ritual to Ra or Sekhmet. In such cases, perhaps a candle is the best thing to use. Hopefully everyone will find their niche.

I do not encourage others to share so freely their spells and rituals with others. You must learn who you can trust and what the intentions are. Can this spell or ritual be used for an evil purpose? Often, I suggest people write their own spells and rituals. But, they don't often like to hear that. But, it's true, your own written works are the most powerful to you. I will, however, bless those of you beginners with a ritual that can cause harm in any way. This may or may not work for you. So, don't give me hate mail because it doesn't work. It works for me, and I wrote it myself. Perhaps it will work for others too.

I talk often about adding weight to the heart. Why is this? In Tameress, we do believe that the sins and good deeds of a person in life is held in the heart. We also believe there is a Western Gate for which the ka must pass to be judged. The ka is the personality, the exact likeness of a person. There is also a ba, which takes the form of a wandering spirit, or ghost. It returns to the body, or a likeness of the person, and dwells there when does not wander.

Anubis, when a person dies, watches over the embalming. He then leads the deceased to the otherworld where the ka is to be judged. The heart is weighed against the Feather or Truth. If the heart does not weigh more than the heart then the ka may pass on to the Kingdom of the West and live a happy afterlife. If the heart wieghs more than the feather, this means that a person has commited far more sins than good deeds, or has not performed as they were expected to in the world of the East. The heart is then cursed and fed to Ammut, a goddess and devourer of souls. This means the soul is forever cursed, damned and never to receive a peaceful afterlife. So, keeping the heart light is a good idea.

This sounds very difficult, but it really isn't. Avoid negative things, such as violence, drugs, and alcoholism. You don't need that stuff in your body. Nor do Tameress look too kindly on anything that could destroy the body's natural functions. Also, don't do anything you know would be a sin. Do not commit adultery and expose your lover and/or spouse to such dangerous possibilities. Deceitful lying is another sin. Trust is a very precious gift. Using it wrongly and abusing it is hurtful and wrong. Murder is yet another. You are not one to play a god or goddess and it is not your place to decide who lives and who dies.

Now, really, does this not sound like your everyday morals and values? That is basically how you decide a sin from and good deed. Does the deed benefit you and other around you? Does the deed harm or hurt anyone, inclusing yourself? What are the consequesnces? If you are not willing to accept the consequences and take responsibility for them, then you should not do anything.

Day of West

Day of West is known also as Samhain, Halloween, and the Pagan New Year. In Tameress, this day is known as the Day of West. However, it celebrated pretty much the same. On the Day of West, the souls are gathered at the Western Gate, waiting to be guided by Anubis to the scales to be judged. However, there is a large multitude of souls every year, since, in a year's time, many people leave this world. So, it is possible for souls to, shall we say, escape. These kas and sometimes even the bas are a little...touchy. However, they are frightened easily, for they are not as strong as they were when they were alive. Costumes and jack-o-lanterns can easily frighten away any evil spirit of any culture. On Day of West, Anubis, the King and Father god, leaves this world to rule the Kingdom of the West, judging every heart that belongs to a soul. This can take a while. While the King god is absent, the world is left in the hands of the wisdom deities, Thoth and Wadjet. Autumn is a time for learning. One must learn how to survive the coming season and learn about themselves. Day of West is a time to praise the successful passing of the souls and pray for those already passed.

Day of East

Day of East is a time for renewal. Darkness is falling over the world, and the sun is dying. The world isleft in the hands of Ka Terri and Temys. They are still and forever young. Lights and candles should be lit and songs should be sung to lead the godlings to the horizon to pull the sun over the dawn. Day of East is a perfect beginning, as everything that begins in the east. Ka Terri and Temys hold off the evil spirits as best they can during this winter season and are guided by their peers.

Day of North

This is the day also known as Beltain, or May Day, according to religion used. Anubis returns to this world and Bastet greets him. They are wed. The rule is lifted from the godlings as they disappear into their own care-free worlds of fun and idle chores. Spring is a great time to renew love and perhaps a good time to seek what you love most.

Day of South

Day of South is also known as Midsummer or Litha in the Wiccan belief. The rule is given now to the solar deities, Ra and Sekhmet. Quality time is best spent in the summer, and this is a perfect time to settle unfinished business.

Day of Learning

Day of Learning is also called Day of Knowledge. In Wicca, it has the name Mabon. Bastet and Anubis part as He prepares to gather the souls to take to the west. Bastet retreats and the young godlings are brought to Thoth and Wadjet to be taught. Soon, the year will begin again and the godlings will have to go again to the horizon. Thoth and Wadjet are symbols of learning, and the best time for lazy reading is usually on cold autumn nights. How much can you learn on the Season of Knowledge?

Blessing Ritual

You Will Need:

1 cone vanilla incense or vanilla scented candle

Crumpled mint leaves, or mint herbs from a tea bag is fine.

Feather

{Optional} Athame

What Is It?

I often hear people asking for spells and rituals on how to cleanse an area or bless it, keeping evil beings away from it. I found that this ritual works, when I was testing some concoction by accident. I am not sure if it would work for anybody, but, from experience, I will share my method. This ritual takes a lot of concentration at first, but becomes easier the more you do it. You may want to play some relaxing music, not hard rock, as it tends to stifle the messages. Be where you are comfortable and will not be disturbed.

I must clear up one thing. This ritual is not permanent, you'll have to do it once every few months, depending how much energy you use. It will not keep out ALL evil. But, as far as evil spirits and harmful Magickal beings, it keeps them away. My friend came over after I had done it and confessed that she felt safer at my house than anywhere else she had ever been. I did it to my bed some time ago, and she said that it seemed like I had a force field around it. I found that interesting, as she never knew that I had done it. To those who are concerned about chasing off the Magickal Folk, it's okay. This ritual only wards off harmful creatures. Those who mean you no harm are not affected by it.

What To Do

How do you perform this ritual? Here's how. You don't even have to really invoke any deities for it. Light the vanilla incense or scented candle. Use the feather to " scoop" the smoke towards you. Inhale it, but not to the point of dizziness. Be very easy with it, you're not trying to get high off of it. You should feel the energy building up within you. When you feel as though you have acquired enough energy, sprinkle some of the mint on the flame. Do NOT put out the burning with it. Put on just enough so that it burns nicely. You may "scoop" the energy towards you with the feather again.

This is where it gets a little tiring. You have to wait until the cone or candle goes out on its own before any power can come to you. Sorry, but this ritual has a catch. So, you can scoop energy with the feather, or sit by and listen to that soft music. When the burning finally ceases, hold your hands over the burnt cone or candle. For those of you wanting to use your athame, go ahead. Simply point the athame at the candle or cone OR hold it horizontally over it. Hold your hands, or athame there and concentrate. Feel the energy coming forth inside you. It should make your fingers tingle at first. Then, you hand, arm and back, etc. When you feel you can hold no more good energy, hold your hands over, or on the object or area you want to bless or cleanse. For people using athames, simple point the blade at the object or area and concentrate on releasing the energy bit by bit. For those of you using your hands, you CAN touch the object you want to bless, but it's not mandatory, just hold your hands over it. Concentrate on releasing the energy in small amounts. You should feel the energy leaving you with the same tingling as you felt before. Your hands may tremble, and that's okay. How long this cleansing lasts depends on how much energy you were able to hold. And that is pretty much all there is to it. That is the ritual on how to bless and cleanse your items and area.
