Janie Metzgar honored by Nashville print publishers

Janie Metzgar was an orphan, raised by the staff of Buckner's Baptist Orphanage in Dallas, Texas.
Mrs. Metzgar was married to Assemblies of God minister, William Douglas Metzgar and spent her entire life in ministry.
She passed from this life into her Heavenly reward while they were pastoring the First Assembly of God in San Angelo, Texas.
Mrs. Metzgar was a singer/songwriter having her first songs published in the early 1920's as piano arrangements in sheet music form.
Mrs. Metzgar attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas and was a degree holding English teacher, mother, and pastor's wife.
She had five children, Billy Jack Metzgar [Dallas], Jonathan David Metzgar [Deceased], Baby Janie Metzgar [Deceased], Robert Douglas Metzgar Nashville], and Leslie Paul
Metzgar [Houston] and was the recipient of several awards for her literary and song contributions.

Diagnosed with leukemia at an early age, Janie West Metzgar was inspired to trust God for her healing.
It was during these times of pain and afflictions that she wrote some of our greatest Baptist hymns.
Doctors gave her no hope of recovery and she suffered in great pain for many years even in remission.
She suffered with migrane headaches throughout her life, but never said a complaining word to anyone.
She wrote in her daily diary the account of the songs that God gave her while she was so ill.
Her inspiration to believe God for her healing as you read through her diaries is deeply touching.
These songs are today published by Aim High Music/Zomba-BMG Publishing and are a tribute to her life of ministry and music.

The History Of Buckner's Baptist Orphanage in Dallas, Texas

Robert Cooke Buckner, a Tennessee-born Baptist pastor, founded Buckner Orphans Home in 1879.
At a Sunday school convention in Paris, Texas, Dr. Buckner initiated his first fund-raising effort.
He placed one dollar in his hat and passed it among those gathered under a large oak tree.
He raised $27, which provided initial funds for the opening of Buckner Orphans Home.

In 1961, the agency’s charter was changed to Buckner Baptist Benevolences to reflect its wide-ranging services.
Buckner's is today one of the largest charitable organizations in the State of Texas.
