An RVN Review from Program Director Eric Phillips

The first time I heard New Radicals on the radio, I was convinced I was listening to a song ("You Get What You Give") that was at least ten years old . . . maybe older. The production was way too full and rich, and the lyrics were real upbeat . . . almost sappy . . . for this to be a new song. Especially on an Alternative radio station! Guess again smart guy!

"Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too" is the Radical's major-label debut, and it's well worth the bargain-basement price most CD retailers are selling it for . . . or were selling it for . . . before "You Get What You Give" hit the charts.

28-year old Gregg Alexander, the only full-time member of the band, wrote and produced nearly every song on the disc. Alexander's voice, which is caught somewhere between Mick Jagger and Darryl Hall, also brings a bright yet soulful touch to each of the 12 songs. I double-dare you to not sing along with Alexander's catchy melodies on "In Need of a Miracle", "Crying Like a Church on Monday", "Gotta Stay High" and "You Get What You Give".

But hey . . . forget all that! This is just a very cool CD!! One that unveils a very original sound, and is really just plain fun to listen to.

Alexander offers his thoughts on all the day's popular topics on "Brainwashed", but unlike the vast majority of Alternative acts on the air these days, he does it with a generally upbeat style that's pretty easy-on-the-ears.

That style is already paying dividends for the band, as "You Get What You Give" crosses all the format boundaries during it's first weeks on the air in America. At Radio Voyager . . . we're confident it will pay dividends by giving our listeners more of what they've already come to expect from our first weeks on the air!

Enjoy!
