New Radicals

Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too

MCA/Universal

Little glimts of greatness

When the light of his talent shines, one is blinded, but then yet another big, dark clound appears, and all that's left is the boring daylight.

New Radicals is really only one man; Gregg Alexander. He's an American with a good nose for melodic and catchy tunes, and a man with great talents and a huge potential. The proof of that is the massive success he's had with the single 'You get what you give', both here in Norway and 'out there'. However, it seems that he doesn' t have enough of neither charm nor patience to last throughout an entire album. Although several of his songs are very good and definitely worth attention, they disappear in a fog of meaningless and unfinished material. Besides the 1970's inspiration, the New Radicals find themselves in a pop landscape that sometimes lies close to R.E.M, other times The Waterboys. But Gregg Alexander has undoubtedly found his own way of expressing himself. And that's something he ought to lift to a higher level, in stead of producing it a step down. Highlight of the record; 'You get what you give'.
