"Meet Jimmy Edmonds!"

The Carolina Opry's Master of Fiddle, Acoustic Guitar, Bass, Banjo and Trombone. Hometown: Galax, Virginia Music has been an integral part of Jimmy Edmond's life for as long as he can remember. "There were lots of musicians on both sides of my family," says Jimmy. "Both my grandfathers were fiddle players, and we were all part of a family band when I was growing up. It's something I'll never forget." Jimmy began playing the fiddle at age four, and it must have been immediately apparent that his abilities were far above the average.

For a record eight years starting at age 10, he won first place at the Galax Fiddlers Convention-the largest and oldest such competition in the world. (Finally they politely asked him to be a judge and give someone else a chance!) Well known by all of those who love the fiddle, Jimmy also represented the United States in the International Folk Festival which was held in the United Kingdom.

Member of The Carolina Opry since: August 1992

He now plays a total of ten different instruments. His versatility is on exhibit in the show, where he will play a banjo in a bluegrass number, trombone in big band pieces, and alternate between the fiddle and acoustic guitar in country numbers and pop medleys. The upright bass comes out for a Hank Williams tune, and his richest classical violin sound complements Rocky Fretz's dramatic piano solos.

Every now then Jimmy picks up a new instrument-and amazes us all with his consummate and completely natural ability as a musician. He has also written several successful gospel songs. In fact, Jimmy can pretty much do anything within the musical realm; he handcrafted the fiddle that he plays in the show. Now that's versatile!

Favorite Escape:

Jimmy loves to get away to his recently purchased place in Galax, which overlooks the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.

You can see Jimmy perform nightly a The Carolina Opry.
