Tango's Fiction

Welcome to the Tango Scrawls!

This is a collection of stories, poetry and the odd artwork by Tango - me, that is. If, like me, you are a fan of the show "Xena: Warrior Princess", check out the Xenaverse fanfic on this site. Actually, now that you're here, you may as well check it out anyway, right?

For the non-Xenaverse folks, there is still plenty of stuff to do. If poetry is your thing, you may be interested in the other short poems on this site, both fanfic and original, or the translations of Russian song lyrics. Or there is my budding collection of sketches and other artwork.

I would love to hear any comments, suggestions, and especially feedback on anything you find on this page, positive or otherwise. Drop me a line on tangofiction@yahoo.com.

What's New?

UPDATED 31-March-2005: New poem "Hours (Timespell)" - my first for the "Phantom of the Opera" fandom! | New translation of another "Nautilus Pompilius" song - Atlantis

"The Outsiders"

     Eternity Broken

This is the first book of what is going to be a two-book series, but it is a complete story in its own right. It's my take on Season 5, which aims to preserve all of the important developments in that season, but reshuffles them into a new story.

     Fortuna's Champion

For the Warrior Princess and the Battling Bard, sleeping in can have disastrous consequences - little Eve is all grown up. Follows "Eternity Broken", but can be read on its own -

Ares/Xena Stories and Poetry

 A Good Turn
The timeline of the show has always been more of a time warp - and why not build on that idea? In the futuristic world of this story, space stations have replaced Greek city-states, rogue warlords still terrorise innocent civilians, and a certain Warrior Princess is still searching for her redemption.

 The Beginning
A 'folk tale' about Xena's youth. Guest appearances by everyone from Cyrene to Solan.

  The Birds Will Cry
A post-FIN vignette. Gabrielle tries to go home.

Into the Dawn
My take on the S6 episode "You Are There". Love can be returned to the world by restoring Aphrodite to Olympus - but there's a catch.

Learning To Make Fire
A restoration of the cut scene from the end of "Motherhood". Xena and Ares say good-bye.

Not Alone
A short unguided tour of the minds of Ares, Xena and Gabrielle.

~*~

After the Apple
After "You Are There", Ares is restored to godhood and Xena returns to the farm -- where it rains. Of course.

Amazon
An Amazon ritual.

Cry
A post-FIN lament from Gabrielle's POV.

No Innocent
Xena's innocent thoughts about Ares when he appears to her in "Chakram".

Or so it seems to me...
Everyone commissioned Sappho’s verses back then! Just check out these.

Seashore Farewell
Ares' thoughts on the beach at the end of "Motherhood".

The Waiting
My very first uber poem. Immortality can be a curse. Years after Xena's death, Ares awaits a miracle.

Touch
Xena walks away from Ares at the end of "Coming Home", the sunset lights her hair bronze and she smiles -- are we missing something here?

Unconditional
What is unconditional love? Isn't it loving everything about someone, both darkness and light?

Under Siege
Xena and Ares in that temple in Amphipolis.

Who's Counting?
Midnight mushiness. Another take on those one-in-a-billion odds (can Xena even count that far?)

General Poetry

Hours (Timespell)
Loosely inspired by the ending of the 2004 "Phantom of the Opera" film, which promised a new maturity for Christine and a new morality for Erik. In this very different sort of music on a very different night, Christine does a little hypnotising of her own. Erik/Christine. Set after the events of the movie/musical.

Forest Dreamscape
A night in the forest.

Ballad of Azhure
A very old poem based on a scene from "Enchanter" by Sara Douglass (Book 2 of "The Wayfarer Redemption"/"Axis Trilogy").

Esmeralda
A dance.

Technomore
A tribute to strobe lights.

Too Late
A tavern song... sort of.

Translations

These are my translations of some of the wonderful lyrics from the Russian group "Nautilus Pompilius". Their music is very diverse, from pure rock to orchestral instrumentals, but it's their lyrics that make them unique.
