NO INNOCENT

speak empty words into my mouth
war, violence, the fight -
hot whispers brought to life
all ehpemeral like the steam
that billows through us
and, willingly, I will reply in kind
until the water has grown cold
the candles melted dark
and fragile, wordless, yet unborn,
love will replace discarded innocence
to save us both
