WEBELOS DEN/PATROL

WE'll BE LOyal Scouts

That's Where The Name Webelos Comes From!

What Are Webelos?

THE FOURTH RANK IN CUB SCOUTING

If you are in fourth or fifth grade, your next step to becoming a Boy Scout is joining a Webelos Den/Patrol. In Webelos, you have the opportunity to earn 22 badges, 20 of them Activity Badges (which are somewhat similar to Merit Badges in Boy Scouts).

As with all other Cub Scouting ranks, new members of the Webelos Den/Patrol must complete the Bobcat Requirements before beginning work in the Webelos program. During your first year in Webelos, concentration is put on earning the Webelos Badge. The requirements are as follows:

Have an adult member of your family read and sign the tear-out Parent Guide in the front of the Webelos Scout Book.

Be an active member of your Webelos Den/Patrol for three months (active means having good attendance, paying den dues, working on den projects).

Know and explain the meaning of the Webelos Badge.

Point out and explain the three parts of the Webelos Scout uniform. Tell when to wear the uniform and when not to wear it.

Earn the Fitness Activity Badge and two other Activity Badges from different Activity Badge groups.

Plan and lead a flag ceremony in your Den/Patrol.

Show that you know and understand the requirements to be a Boy Scout.

Understand and intend to live by the Scout Oath/Promise, Scout Law, Scout Motto, and Scout Slogan.

Know the following and when to use them: Scout Salute, Scout Sign, and Scout Handclasp.

Understand and agree to follow the Outdoor Code.

Complete one of the following: (1) Earn the religious emblem of your faith; or (2) Do two of these: (a) Attend the church, synagogue, mosque, or other religious organization of your choice, talk with your religious leader about your beliefs, and tell your family and Webelos Den Leader what you learned; (b) Tell how your religious beliefs fit in with the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Discuss this question with your family and Webelos Leader: What character-building traits do your beliefs and the Scout Oath and Scout Law have in common?; (c) With your religious leader, list and do two things you think will help you draw nearer to God; (d) Pray to God or meditate revently each day as taught by your family and by your church, synagogue, or religious group. Do this for at least one month; (e) Under the direction of your religious leader, do an act of service for someone else. Talk about your service with your family and Webelos Leader. Tell them how it made you feel; and (f) List at least two ways you believe you have lived in accordance with your religious beliefs.

When you have completed these requirements -- CONGRATULATIONS -- you have earned the right to wear the Webelos Badge.

After earning your Webelos Badge, you can begin working on your Arrow of Light Requirements. During our second year in Webelos, we will take a closer look at these.

Our Holiday Food Drive on Saturday, November 11 (Bags Out) and Saturday, November 18 (Bags In) was a huge success! Thanx to the Webelos and parents for helping out.

Tuesday, November 7, 2000...a date that will go down in history as being one of the wackiest presidential elections yet! For the Webelos, it was also a memorial one...as the day they visited a real live TV station and officially earning their Webelos Communication Badge. Shawn, Andrew, Denny, Albert along with members of the Bear Den received a tour of KYW TV/Channel 3 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Look at pictures in our PHOTO ALBUM. While in Philadelphia, we also visited the Liberty Bell were we actually saw one of the presidential candidates, Ralph Nader. Finally, we walked across the street for a tour of Independence Hall.

TIGERS, WOLVES, BEARS...WEBELOS?...OH MY!!! The Pack Halloween Party on Friday, October 27, was a great time for all! Albert was dressed as Count Dracula; Zack was dressed as Scream; Andrew was dressed as a Cub Scout; CJ was dressed as a Police Officer; Shawn was dressed as a Ninja Warrior; and Denny (who won first place in the den for best costume) was a convincing Injuried Army Man! Lots of games and junk food made this a party the boys won't soon forget! Look at our pictures.

Some Webelos joined the Bears at their Den Meeting on Monday, October 16 to earn their Whittling Chips. CJ and Andrew carved their respective initials. While Shawn and Denny carved out cars. All did a great job! Congratulations boys!!!

CALLING ALL BIKERS!!! It was quite a sight to see on Monday, October 2, the Bears and members of Pack #37 were seen riding together around Tinicum. Zack, CJ, Shawn, and Andrew all earned their Bicycle Belt Loop or Pin. Fun was had by everyone!

Saturday, August 26 was the perfect day for our POOL PARTY at Tinicum Township Swimming Club. There were hotdogs, hamburgers, and (of course) swimming galore. Albert really took advantage of the pool (we couldn't get him out all day). Andrew and Shawn also had a great time. Look here for our Pack picture at the Splash Party.

Our second Car Wash Fundraiser of the year held on Saturday, July 22 at the Lester Fire House was a success! It was a perfect day this time---SUN, SUN, SUN! Albert, Andrew, Denny, and Shawn represented the Webelos and did a great job! Not only did we wash cars and trucks, but we even had a boat (YES--A BOAT!) and bikes drop by! All in all, the Pack had a terrific time! Look at pictures of the Car Wash - Photo Album page.

WOW -- we just got back from a trip to Camp Delmont (see the CAMPING page for more details) and it was the best! Shawn earned his Golf Belt Loop, BB-Gun Belt Loop, Swimming Belt Loop, and Archery Belt Loop! He also worked on his Craftsman Badge by working at the Sawcraft and Leather Shops.

It was a hot day on June 24th, but a fun one! Shawn went with the rest of the Pack to the John Heinz Wildlife Refuge to explore the great outdoors. Our guide, Tom, was very knowledgeable and answered most of our questions. The walking tour lasted about 2 hours and we learned about different birds, flowers, and trees. We even found 3 turtles, hatched turtle eggs, goose feathers, and (unfortunately) a dead snake and baby bird.

Look for new achievements throughout the year.
