YOUTH NEWS

      Confirmation Update

Catechism/Confirmation begins again this September.  This year we will meet on the second Saturday of each month, 9 a.m.  - 2 p.m.  A letter with the schedule has been sent to each family we believe has a student that should be starting or returning this year.  If you did not receive one, please speak with Pastor Krista.  Our first class will be at Camp Sequanota on September 12th.  It will include an intro to the Bible, an intro to the Old Testament and time for participation in a low-ropes course.  October 10th is our second class and will include "Creation and the Call of Abraham".

LUTHER LEAGUE

Our youth group is for 6th through 12th graders of the parish.  We will have a kick-off gathering at Pastor Krista's on Sunday, September 20th, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.  We will then meet weekly at the same time.  The location for activities will be forthcoming.  We will also be planning special events throughout the year.  Parental help in planning would be appreciated.

2009 National
Youth Gathering

We extend a thank you for all your thoughts, prayers and financial support of our mission to the people of  New Orleans.  Some of you were able to keep up with our activities through the on-line blog that we posted each day to the church's website.  Others received postcards from NOLA with daily summaries.

We learned a lot in our time together and were amazed, once again, at the awesome power of Christ to work wonders in our world on behalf of those in need.  To share in the Lord's Supper with 38,000 fellow Christian Lutherans was life-giving and transforming.  To serve each day among people who didn't care about the heat, but just wanted to give what they could to make a difference, was empowering.  To listen to people's stories and hear their pain, their joys, their frustrations, their hopes and dreams was a blessing and an honor.  Sometimes, the only thing we can do is be present with another and it is enough.  It is the incarnation at work in us...Christ alive and incarnate in us to work justice and life for the least, the lost, the lonely.

We will be sharing more of our experiences on a coming Sunday in September.  We'll keep you posted and hope you can join us to worship our Lord.
