IT'S TIME TO GET BUSY

It is time to start doing a few things out in your yard. There is still time to prune your fruit trees before they start budding out (some are starting to bud-Plums).With the rain we have had, do not till when the ground is real wet--you will just have a mess and do more harm then good.

There are a lot of different types of plants that your can plant now. Peas, Onions, Lettuce, Broccoli, Cabbage, Radishes and Cauliflower are some of the plants and seeds you can sow. Bareroot plants such as Strawberries, Blueberries, Ruhbarb, Asparagus and Rasberries should be in the Nurseries by now. Now is the time to stop by your nearest nursery and see what they have.

In the lower elevations you can go ahead and fertilize your lawn. It is too early to use weed and feed--it needs to warm up. You also can fertilize your trees and shrubs. Even in the higher elevations there are things that you can do in your yard (snow permiting)-- You can plant summer bulbs and if you have no snow on the ground, you can plant any bareroot or balled and burlaped plants or shrubs.

Remember to add some organic matter to the soil whenever you plant something. Next month I will go into more detail to what and when you can plant certain plants. There is no need to rush it. If you plant too early, you will be buying them again or just be giving up and I don't want you to do that. Hang in there and Happy Gardening---Chuck
