Goalkeepers
Mel CapletonMartyn Margetson
CapletonMel, 25, began his carreer at Roots Hall in the youth team before joining Blackpool. He then drifted into non-league football before signing a short term contract with Leyton Orient. He then rejoined the Shrimpers in the summer and has since enjoyed a good spell in the first team MargetsonMartyn, 27, began his carreer at Manchester City and has been capped at both under-21 and B level. However he found his opportunities limited at Maine Road and headed for Roots Hall in the Summer.

Defenders
Simon ColemanRob Newman
Coleman Simon, 30,is the Blues captain and commands the defence. He has undoubted experience as he has played in the colors of Middlesbrough, Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday and Bolton. NewmanRob Newman, 35, has been troubled by injury this season but the experienced Defender, who will have an operation during the summer will hope to be back for next seasons campaign. .

Mark BeardMartyn Booty
Mark, 24 is enjoying his second spell at the club. He previously played for the Shrimpers in a loan spell in season 97/98 Mark was later signed from Sheffield United. He was awarded Southend's Player of the season for 98/99 Martyn, 27, provides many options for United, he can play as a full back or as a center half. He was signed from Reading
David Morley Leo Roget
Morley21 year Old David Morley began his career at Maine Road before travelling north to Ayr United on a loan spell. The promising defender then went south to sign for the Shrimpers LeoLeo, 21, is a product of the Southend Youth Scheme. He has been troubled by injury over the past seasons but is enjoying his return to the team.
Gary Cross
Gary Came through the ranks of the Southend United Youth Scheme. He has played a key role at right back position for the youngsters and will hope that next season he can make the break through into the first team

Midfielders
Kevin MaherAdrian Clarke
MaherKevin, 21, began his career at Tottenham and has also been capped by the Irish under-21 squad. During his time at Spurs he won the Youth Team Player of the Year Award. . Clarke24 year old Adrian Clarke signed for the Shrimpers from Arsenal but first team football has eluded him for much of the season.
Julian Hails Scott Houghton
HailsJulian is another player who has been dogged by injury all year. Julian's knee has been stopping his chances of first team action but he will be hoping to be back in the thick of things next season. HoughtonHoughton attacks down the left flank and has a good selection of crosses at his disposal. He began his career at White Hart Lane before moving to Luton, Walsall Peterboro and then Southend
Simon LivettLeon Johnson
LivettLivett, 29, is enjoying his return to proffesional football. He has previoulsy played for The Hammers, Orient, and Cambridge. Simon then signed for non league Grays before moving on to Billericay and then to Southend. Leon, 18, signed for the Shrimpers from Charlton Athletic, he can play in Midfield or in Defence but has yet to break into the first team a s a regular. He started on the subs bence twice last season.
Gordon Connelly
ConnellyGordon, 22 was signed from York City on the same day Little captured the signature of Neil Tolson. Gordon was unsettled at York and was quick to re-unite with his old boss at Southend. The impressive winger started his career at Airdie before making the trip south of the border to York. He signed for the shrimpers for an undisclosed fee but is thought to be around £50,000.

Forwards
Neville Roach Barry Conlon
Roach Neville, 21, was Alvin Martin's last signing as Blues Manager but has played a vital role up front for the Shrimpers. His first goal came in the 2-0 win over Swansea at home. Neville signed for Southend from Reading Conlon20 year old Barry Conlon started off at QPR then he was released and signed for Manchester City. Then in September of 1998 he travelled back south again as he signed for the Shrimpers.
Neil TolsonTrevor Fitzpatrick
Tolson6ft 3ins, Tolson played for Alan Little at York and he was quick to follow his Boss to Roots Hall. He Scored 18 times at Bootham Cresent but was troubled by injury throughout his two years there. The 25 Year Old Striker signed under the Bosman Ruling when he rejected a new contract at York. His Previous clubs include, Walsall, Bradford, York and Oldham when they were in the Premiership. FitzpatrickTrev has scored four times this year for the Blues, three as a substitute. He has fitted in up front when called for
Neil CampbellDavid Whyte
Neil Campbell is a player that manager, Alan Little knows plenty about. The Blues Gaffer managed Campbell when they were at York. David joined the Seasiders from Alan Little's old club, York City but he had a torrid season last year. David will want to make his mark this season
