LIFE SKETCH OF CYRUS H. MORFORD

Memorial services were held Saturday afternoon, April 28th, for Cyrus H. Morford who passed away Wednesday evening April 25 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Homer Petty, southeast of Silver City.

OBITUARY

Cyrus Hiram Morford, son of Francis and Cordelia Morford, was born July 31, 1871 at Centerville, Iowa. At the age of one and one half years, he came with his family to Malvern, Iowa. Here he grew to manhood.

On September 15*, 1901, Mr. Morford was united in marriage to May Radford of Tabor, Iowa and to this happy union were born five children.

The family lived for three years in Tabor, moved to Nebraska and came to Glenwood about 46 years ago where they have since made their home.

For 16 years Mr. Morford was engaged as a butcher for Cheyney's Meat Market. He spent ten years as caretaker of the Armory and later worked for the city and at the State School.

Mr. Morford has been in failing health since 1936 and was an invalid the last three years of his life. These later years he spent with the children here and in Colorado and California. Unable to get about much, save by wheel chair or crutches, it was a great joy to be in the different homes of his children.

Mr. and Mrs. Morford spent the last winter in Sacremento, Calif. with their daughter, Opal, coming back to Denver about the 7th of April. He was taken to a local hospital and later brought by ambulance to the Homer Petty home east of Silver City, where he seemed to be improving.

On April 25, about 3:30 in the afternoon, Mr. Morford passed away at the age of 79 years, eight months and 26 days. Left to mourn his death are: his wife, May; three daughters, Mrs. Gladys Petty of Silver City, Mrs. Opal Branson of Sacremento, Calif. and Mrs. Vivian Newman of Denver, Colo. Two sons, Beryl C. Morford of Denver, Colo, and Fay M. Morford of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Other survivors include: Eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several Neice and nephews. Also, three sisters: Mrs. Eliza Jones of Gordon, Nebr.; Mrs. Mina Buckingham of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Myrtle Good of Emerson, Iowa. One brother, A.C. Morford of Eugene, Ore.

Cyrus H. Morford was the last of a family of 13, his twin brother passed away little over a year ago.

Visits from his many friends and an interest in the Glenwood Christian Church, of which he was an active member of years, made life enjoyable for Mr. Morford.

MY NOTE: *(Date of marriage) Am not sure the date is 15 or 18 - looks like 15. vlww
