The Story Behind The Jeep In The Picture:
The Colonel wanted his jeep "spruced up", so those of us in the Motor Pool took our ration cards, and went to work! With a few cases of Budweiser, we coordinated "local economy" fabrication of
a white vinyl top, matching white vinyl seat covers, and a spare tire cover, as seen in the picture. We also "stripped" the jeep, to the basics, and repainted it with 3 parts gloss black, and 1 part of normal
O.D. green (to keep it "legal"). Using a "traffic orange" paint, we undercoated the underside of the vehicle, "for effect". However, the Corps Commander got wind of this, and became "very upset" about it!
We had to remove all of the excess "stuff", except for the "spare tire cover", which you can see in this picture. Good intentions, bad idea, but remembered well !!!
