I don’t want to keep you waiting any longer. We last left you as Betty and Scott were leaving on a special date. Let's find out what Scott was so nervous about.

======================================================

"So, where're you taking me?" asked Betty as they rode along in the taxi. She noticed they were heading out of the city.

"That’s a secret. We're getting near, so it's time for the blindfold," said Scott taking out a black handkerchef like the one used in "Magic Time."

"But Scott..."

"I spent hours looking for this special spot, so I don’t want to ruin it before we get there."

"Why?"

"We’re here. Stay here. I’ll be right back," said Scott getting out of the car. He headed to the site and got everything ready.

"A moonlight picnic awaits you, my lady," said Scott, coming back to the taxi. He led Betty to the site. He had found a clearing in the woods along the Mongahala River where the moon dimly shined into it, leaving it a glow. "Here we are. Let me help you with that," said Scott, taking off the blindfold.

"Wow! You made all that food for us, too."

"Yep. Have a seat."

"Thanks, but why are you doing all of this?"

"That comes later."

As they finished eating, Scott took out an expensive bottle of wine. "A glass of wine?"

"Thank you. To us." Betty and Scott clanked the cups together and drank.

"Let's take a walk," said Scott a little nervously after they had a couple of glasses. They walked for a long time, but Betty was getting a little impatient to find out why Scott was doing all this.

"Scott, please tell me what's going on. You’ve been pretty quiet all night, and you haven’t made a move on me, either." She stopped walking and gazed into his eyes, looking for information.

"Betty, we’ve been dating only for a short time, but we’ve spent alot of time together. To get right to the point, Betty, I love you," said Scott, looking at her as a breeze blew her hair and her dress. She looked so beautiful out here.

"Scott, I love you, too."

"Betty..." he pulled her closer and embraced her and let her go to finish. "Will you marry me?"

She was silent as her mind was thinking. She wanted to say yes, but her mind wondered off to Victor, who cared about her.

"I guess that's a no," said Scott, turning to head back. She grabbed his arm to stop him. He turned around. His eyes were filled with saddness and no sparkle.

"Scott, on the contrary, I'll marry you. I was just thinking."

Scott took out a box from his pocket, and opened it. Inside was a ring with a little diamond, and little rose petals around it. It looked almost like a flower. He slipped it on her finger.

"It’s beautiful, Scott!" Her eyes watered.

Scott bent down to kiss her long and passionatly, hoping it would never end. She wrapped her arms around his neck, and could feel it from head to toe.

"I think we need to head back. I have to be up early tomorrow for a meeting with Victor."

======================================================

The next morning Victor was pacing up and down the reception area. Betty was late. It was 8:30 already. She knew that they had an important meeting at 7. Even Scott was on time. Victor had noticed something different about him this morning.

"Victor, do you know where Betty is?" asked Scott, walking out of Studio A.

"No, I don’t. She must have overslept."

"Well, that’s natural, since we were up late last night."

"You were?!" asked Victor. Betty should have known better than to do that!

"We had some personal business to take care of."

"I’m sorry about being so late, but I couldn’t seem to get up this morning," said Betty, walking through the door. Gertie smiled at her. She had noticed the ring on her finger, and Scott had a special sparkle in his eye this morning.

"Betty, meet me in my office in five minutes," ordered Victor.

"BettyBettyBetty," said Scott, taking her arm as they walked down to the Writer’s Room.

That’s true love for you, thought Gertie to herself.

"Gertie, were there any messages for me?" asked Hilary as she walked in.

"Ah, no," said Gertie.

"Hey, are you awake in there?"

"I was just thinking about how Scott and Betty are getting really close. I say it's love."

"What’s going on, Gertie?"

Gertie leaned over to tell her what she heard and noticed.

======================================================

"Betty, I’m leaving today. I may come back or I may not," said Victor.

"I know, but Victor, I can’t do that. I’m engaged to be married."

"Since when?"

"Since last night. Scott proposed and I accepted. I really do love him a lot."

"Congratulations," said Victor half-heartedly.

"Thanks, Victor." Betty gave him a kiss on the cheek.

"Betty, then you should become station manager."

"I wouldn’t be able to handle it. How about Scott, or we share the responsibility?"

"All right. I hope you two will be very happy. I’ll miss you."

"I’ll miss you, too."

Someone knocked on the door, and then Scott walked in.

"Well, congratulations, Scott. You'd better realize what a catch you've got here. Don’t you hurt her, or else."

"I wouldn’t ever do it on purpose, or without a good reason. I love Betty too much to do that," said Scott, taking Betty into his arms as Victor sneaked out.
