First Try

I’ve taken you into the past, so let's get back on track. Betty and Scott were becoming like friends, but of course, Scott wants more than that. He is even willing to try jealousy. Any trick in the book is worth a try to him.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today was a hectic day at WENN, even for them. Betty, finally, had gotten permission to hire someone to help her with the writing. The girl's only problem was that she was the flirting type...and Scott was her top choice.

Betty was feeling a little bit jealous, even though she wouldn’t admit it to anyone. Scott seemed to like the flirting, and even flirted back.

Well, at least I have Victor. Tomorrow night they were going dancing when he got back. That would teach Scott a lesson.

Back to work, Betty. She picked up the scripts to hand out. As she was walking down the hall she was able to see Trisha hanging all over Scott, their backs to her.

"Hi, you two," said Betty, approaching them.

"BettyBettyBetty," said Scott, wondering what Betty thought of what she saw.

"One Betty will do. Here’s your scripts, Scott," said Betty, who then headed into the studio.

"She seems a little jealous," said Trisha, cuddling a little closer to him.

Scott pushed her off and headed into the studio.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Later, Scott found Betty in the manager’s office. He wanted to explain about earlier.

"Well, Scott, you and Trisha seem to be getting close," said Betty, hoping he wouldn’t hear the hurt in her voice.

"But Betty......" Scott started to protest.

"You should ask her out on a date. Actually, why don’t we make it a double date with me and Victor?”

"I don’t know.."

"Go ahead. It’s obvious that you guys like each other. Don’t you have a show to do?"

"Yeah, but..."

"Go, go." He left and ran into Trisha.

"I'd love to go."

"O.k. then, we'll go." His mind was going. He had a plan mulling in his head.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next night the four of them went out dancing. Scott tried to show interest in Trisha, but it wasn’t working. He kept on looking over at Betty. At least she and Victor were having a fun time.

"Hey, Trish, would you like to dance?" asked Scott when there was a break in the slow songs. Victor and Betty were already dancing.

"You have a big crush on Miss Roberts, don’t you?" asked Trisha.

"No, I don’t," said Scott defensively.

"Yeah, right. If you don’t have a crush, you must be in love. You've had your eyes on her all night."

Gosh, is it that noticeable? thought Scott, and continued out loud, "Well you have a point there. I’ve been in love with her a long time, but her heart belongs to Victor." He hoped his plan would start pretty soon.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Victor and Betty were dancing. Betty was enjoying herself, but she had a feeling Scott wasn’t. Why should she worry about him? Another thing was bothering as well. She and Victor seemed like it wasn’t quite the same as before. She knew she had grown up since he had left for London, and it was probably hard to get used to.

"Is there a Mr. Comstock, Victor Comstock here? You have a phone call," said a man over the intercom.

"Excuse me, Betty," said Victor, who then rushed to the phone. Betty headed back to the table and Scott and Trisha came soon after.

Trisha made an excuse about needing to go to the Ladies Room. "Betty would you like to dance?" asked Scott.

"No thanks," said Betty.

"Come on. This is what we came here for."

"All right, all right," said Betty.

Victor got back and saw them dancing, so he left a note. As he was leaving he ran into Trisha.

"Can you give me a ride home? I’ve got a splitting headache."

"Sure." They left as Betty and Scott danced to the song "Moonlight Becomes You", by Glenn Miller.

Scott held Betty very close as they danced. It felt so good to him, but Betty was a little bit uncomfortable. She laid her head on his shoulder as Scott led them to the patio.

"You know, moonlight becomes you so. They must have had you in mind when they wrote this song," said Scott.

"I think it has to do more with the hair color, but thank you anyway," said Betty.

Betty looked into his eyes and wished she was his forever to dance with and much more. He wanted to bend down and kiss her, ever since that night he kissed her outside of the writer’s room again. He loved her so much, and wished she could return it. Before he realized it he had bent down ready to kiss her, but she pushed him away gently.

"I’m sorry, Betty. Something just came over me to try."

"Let's go," said Betty. They left after picking up the note.
