Drawings vs. PhotomorphsDrawings usually take several hours to complete, are done in pencil, color pencil, or fineline marker pens. Photomorphs can take an evening, depending on the detail I want to achieve, and I use Ulead's Photo Express or Photo Impact graphics programs to work on those. The usual method is to feel inspired to do a picture, and then just go and do it right away. Some artists sketch ovals and other shapes when setting up a picture, then add details and ink it, where I start with a central feature like a nose, then draw the rest of the Dog around it. I also might use a model, like a picture of a regular Dog to get the basic look, then freely interpret him or her as an anthro Canine.Once the rough picture is on the paper I add layers of detail and depth to it. With photomorphs it's similar, except the tip of the mouse pointer is used instead of a pencil or pen, and you have digital graphics effects at your disposal, like morphing, cloning, warping, etc.
On being a DogWhy make anthropomorphic Canines? Well, when I first found an interest in anthros, I didn't know about comics with these creatures, or a Furry scene on the Net, and the Canine anthros I liked were hard to come by for me; I had to draw what was in my head, because I couldn't find it elsewhere. It's also a release, because I've felt like a Dog in some way for most of my life. I think it's similar to the idea that someone doesn't feel a part of the culture, gender, or other group they appear to belong to on the surface. What is my calling? To be a Dog. My preference is to be a regular housepet on four legs, but I'm typing this and not curled up in a corner somewhere at the moment, so the reality must be something different indeed. What about something in between? Anthro is a good representation of what I feel.
You can't have one thing without the other'Anthropomorphic' by dictionary definition means an animal with Human characteristics or qualities, possibly Human typical speech and thought, upright posture, or a body shaped along Human lines. In other woofs physically and/or culturally on both the Human and the animal sides. Some of my Canine role models come from the media, like the conversational Wolf pack in The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling, Disney's The Shaggy DA movie, Here's Boomer from TV, the famous campy picture of Dogs playing Poker, and even Chewbacca from Star Wars. On the airNow can you picture a furry form hunched over a microphone, broadcasting from the middle of nowhere? If not, check out the QSL page for more pictures. Thanks for coming by here today.
