The Pinecrest boys improved to 2-0 in the Mid-Southeastern Conference, and 5-0-1 overall, with a 6-0 soccer victory over Scotland County Wednesday night. The Patriots are back in action Friday at 7 p.m. when 10th ranked Leesville Road (3-3-2) pays a visit. In the fifth minute, Patriot defender Eric Parziale carried the ball down the right wing. He sent a crossing pass through the penalty box to Matt Carriker who deposited the ball inside the far post to give the Pats a 1-0 lead. In the 16th minute, Jack Talton took a pass from John Kropp, maneuvered around the goalkeeper and a couple of defenders for the kick that made it 2-0. With the umbrellas coming out, Talton assisted on the first two goals after the intermission. He delivered a low cross to Brandon Wilkins for a far post finish on one of them, and later made a back pass to Thomas Goulden for about a 25-yard scoring shot to make it 4-0. Late goals by Ryan Osterman and Max Brenner completed the scoring. Scotland dropped to 0-1 and 1-2 with the loss. Goalkeepers Lewis Cable and Matt Scott had only one save between them as the Patriots recorded their fifth shutout of the season. The only goal allowed by the Patriots this season was in a 3-1 third game victory over Laney. <-Previous 9-8-08 at Douglas Byrd (W, 5-0) 9-12-08 vs #10 Leesville Road (L, 2-5) Next-> |
