The Pinecrest High School boys' soccer team opened 2008 Mid-Southeastern conference play Monday night with a convincing 5-0 win over the Fighting Eagles of Douglas Byrd in Fayetteville.      The victory pushed the team's consecutive win streak in conference to 53 games.      "That was a pretty hard fight tonight and a nice result considering what happened last year with these guys (two close 2-1 Pinecrest wins)," said Pinehurst head soccer coach Larry Martin.      "We wore them down in the second half with our possession and quick ball movement/. I also had told the guys to move forward into the attack more quickly and it created more scoring opportunities."      The Patriots (4-0-1), ranked in the top 20 in the state, will host unbeaten Scotland at 7 p.m. tonight at the John Williams Athletic Center and then host No. 10 Leesville Road Friday.      Pinecrest started quickly against Douglas Byrd. Seven minutes into the game, junior midfielder Aaron Stroker dribbled the ball down right wing and passed it to senior Matt Carriker, who took the ball in stride and tucked it by the charging Eagle keeper for the 1-0 advantage.      The lead grew to 2-0 in the final minute of the first half when junior Ryan Osterman scored on a rebound after the Eagle failed to control a shot by senior John Kropp. Kropp's shot ricocheted off the goalie and onto the waiting foot of Osterman.      Pinecrest pressed the attack in the second half. The aggressive play led to the team's third goal.      Carriker took a pass from Kropp and blistered a shot at the Eagle goalie from close range.      The ball deflected off the goalie and back to Carriker, who headed the loose ball into the net for second goal of the night.      Senior Captain Eric Parziale got into the scoring column in the 68th minute off an assist from junior Thomas Goulden.      Osterman capped the scoring with his second goal of the night six minutes later.      Pinecrest's Matt Scott and Lewis Cable would split the net-minding duties and record the shutout thanks to the stout defense played by juniors Taylor Miles, Dylan Cole, Sam Ivey and senior captain Brent Foote.
