Rescued Dolls

Why rescue dolls? I collect Barbie dolls, but I can't afford to buy many of the beautiful collector dolls on the market. And on my jaunts to flea markets and yard sales, I would find Barbie dolls, named "Superstars" for their head mold, lying all alone, abused, and unloved. I decided to turn my creative energies into rescuing these girls and fixing them up, so that I could have some unique dolls in my collection. Mattel makes enough blonde Superstars, I want something different! :-)

To make viewing this page easier, only "after" pictures are displayed. "Before" pictures can be seen through what I hope are obvious links.

My first effort involved repainting Chic Barbie, mostly to test the paints I wanted to use. I use acrylic craft paints, and the thinnest brush on the market. I protect my efforts with Liquitex Medium Gloss and Varnish.

Then, I took a yard sale doll, and removed all her hair. I rerooted the head with One and Only Creations' Braided Hair. I painted over her existing face paint, and Natasha was born. That's her below, wearing a dress I designed and sewed myself.

My next project involved a doll my mother rescued from the Thrift Shop for me. She came with ratty blonde hair (with green roots), and pink eyeshadow that simply had to go. I rerooted her, and removed all of her face paint (with acetone) for a better looking result. With her rebirth she became Rochelle.

Rochelle after!

I branched away from Barbie by repainting a Ski Fun Midge doll. I kept her lovely red hair, but I thought her eyes were painted too far apart. So I took care of that! The results are below.

I occasionally sell dolls on Ebay. I have no dolls listed at the moment. I list under the User ID of neptune_canuck.
