Once I got comfortable customizing dolls, I got cocky. I decided to enter the
1998 Barbie Bazaar magazine Make-over Artist Awards contest, in the
International phase. It was frustrating at times, doing
*everything* - repainting, rerooting, and sewing a dress of my own design.
But really, I enjoyed this new challenge, and it was a delight to see my
doll in Barbie Bazaar! My entry, which I titled Flower Garden Fairy,
is pictured below. I did not win, but since my goal was to pull together a
concept, execute it, and see my doll in the magazine, I am quite content.
I boycotted the 1999 contest, because the magazine asked for an entry fee. $35 (US)
for just one doll! Booooooooooooooooo!
The CustomDolls mailing list had an online contest. The rules
were simple - start with a Pretty in Plaid Barbie. Here is a link to
all of the
entries, and mine is below, with better pictures. I called my entry
Lisa Steps Out:
The next CustomDolls contest was the Alice in Wonderland contest. I had a lot of
fun creating my entries - and I won!?!

Just one more!
My second entry was The Caterpillar. Another rescued doll - her hair was
painted gold, along with the rest of her! She won 1st Place in Face Painting.

The last contest I entered was the CustomDolls list
Millenium.
I didn't win, but some spectacular dolls did! My entry, Sungold, is
