Sometimes...not often enough,
we reflect upon the good things,
and those thoughts always center
around those we love.
And I think about the people who
mean so much to me.
And for so many times have made me,
so very happy.
And I count the times I have
forgotten to say....
Thank You and just how much
I Love You!!!
Hi, Welcome to my family genealogy page.It is not complete yet, but with time and patience I will get it finished. This site isnt about any one Swank family. It is all the Swank families in this blood line.
A little short story about me. I started doing this site when I was 49 years old as a way to find my family connections. I left home when I was 15 years old. I lost all contact with my family, not only my parents but also my brothers, aunts, uncles, and cousins. This was my choice. After my father passed away I wanted to know WHO my family and ancestors were. I wanted to know why some of the things I did as a kid came about. The only family members I actually knew lived out of town except my grandparents, so I didnt really know them. I knew my grnadparents names were Harry Swank and Myrtle Williams, I didn't know their parents. I wanted to know my great grandparents, my ancestors, etc. Therefore I started doing genealogy research to find my family.
To date from what I can gather, we are from German descent. Our ancestors either were already here, around 1734, or came over to fight in the American Revolutionary War, in 1776. The Germans who came over to fight were known as "Hessian" soldiers. Hired by King George 3 of England, to do battle. After the American Revolution some 3,000 Hessians stayed here in the United States, while others either went back to Germany or migrated to Canada.
For more information on "Hessians", visit John Merz's site at: "http://home.cogeco.ca/~hessians/".
The "Swank","Schwend","Schwenk",etc., first settled in Pennsylvania before moving on to Maryland, where the name spelling changed to "Swank".
After Maryland, a "Mr.Galbreath and Mr. Swank (along with Mr. Swank's four sons)journeyed to Ohio. Settling in Muhlenburg Township Pickaway County Ohio. This dated around 1803. (But from personal research it seems Pickaway County didn't exist in 1803.)
In doing a Heraldry and Crest search, I found this little bit of information. ""In studying our archives we found that one of the earliest references to the family name Swank dates back in history to the year 1337". Swank is a surname found primarily in Germany.
The names so far I have researched are: SWANK, HATFIELD, DENNIS, GEORGE, WILLIAMS, IMES, MESSER.
