...1st Annual “From Womb to Womanhood” Conference
Philadelphia Pa, held in conjunction with the Pan African Studies Community Education Program of Temple University.
Date: October 27-29, 2006
Wisdom Word Women (WWW), a subsidiary of, In The Company of Poets (ITCOP) are pleased to invite you to submit proposals for presentations, special sessions and immersion for the 1st annual “Womb to Womanhood” conference. This newly named conference will be a place for women and girls to celebrate the beauty of themselves.
A place where, community members, educators, cultural artist, activist, spiritual leaders and more, can join together to network, receive information, participate in exercise, wellness related classes, workshops forums, etc.
As women we have to get back to looking out for each other. And as women of color it is important that we reconnect as sisters to focus on the development of sisterhood between African, African-Caribbean, and African-American women. Concentrate on growth in our communities. We have to be a part of the education of our children and an active member in the strengthening of our faith
WHO WE ARE
In The Company of Poets, a dynamic spoken word performance duo featuring Pat McLean-RaShine and Debra Powell-Wright, uses the power of words to rejuvenate,
reminisce, and reinvent their lives and the lives of women who have sought to challenge themselves as they journey through life.
The duo has popularized the concept that "Poetry Pulls Pain," in order to encourage women and men to view their past life as a blueprint for the future. Their workshop, by the same name, has been offered to women subjected to abuse, children struggling with lack of support, and the men who love them all.
Under the umbrella of In The Company of Poets, Wisdom Word Women serves as a speakers’ bureau for community organizations seeking to address issues relevant to the challenges faced by women and girls in transitional periods of their lives. Whether it’s a Rites-of-Passage program for girls, an opportunity for teens to express social life issues, or the discovery of other worthwhile endeavors beyond traditional familial roles, Wisdom Word Women will provide that safe place for sharing. And the safe place will allow creativity to begin to promote an emotionally and spiritually healthy sense of self-identity, self-esteem, and self-empowerment.
