Operation:Condor
Armour of God II

Operation:Condor
While waiting to meet a contact, Asian Condor agrees to watch a Japanese girl's market stall. A blonde European girl shows an interest in one of her African statues and as soon as she leaves a couple of Arabs turn up determined to buy it. When his contact turns up he is taken to Duke's mansion where he is briefed on his mission - to locate a stash of Nazi gold in a hidden base in Africa, on behalf of the UN. Duke gives Jackie the special key to the base and partners him with Ada, an expert on desert survival.
That night Condor investigates the home of a potential relative of the German commander of the base, but she arrives home while he's there - and turns out to be the blonde from the market who is the base commander's granddaughter, Elsa.
The next day, Condor takes the key to a locksmith who tells him it is a very unusual key and after he leaves he is chased by more thugs and only escapes after a frantic motorcycle/car chase. He returns to the Duke's mansion where everyone is ready to leave.
They check into a hotel in Morocco, but when they return to their rooms after dinner they find them ransacked - the Arabs again. That night, militia types turn up, also looking for the key and the gold. The group set out for the desert and on the way run into Momoko, the market girl, again. That night the camp is raided by bandits and Elsa and Ada are abducted to be sold as concubines. Condor and Momoko manage to save them, but when they get back to the camp everyone has been killed. Moloko recognises a structure in one of Elsa's old photos and it turns out to be the base, but they've been followed there by mercenaries on the payroll of a surviving German from the base....

At the time of release Operation:Condor was the closest thing to a Hollywood style film that Jackie had done, with lots of globetrotting, Nazi gold, desert locations and obviously bigger budget. Jackie reprises his Armour of God character and this film also starts with a crazy escape from tropical island natives. Operation:Condor has some of Jackie's most acrobatic fight scenes (reminiscent of bits of Dragons Forever and the end of Police Story 2) and because Jackie's also directing every one is clearly captured.
It's also very funny, with the humour present in both action scenes and non-action scenes. The story's not the easiest to follow (particularly as none of the locations have name captions) and Elsa becomes very irritating after a while, but the individual set pieces are very impressive.
Overall, it's not much like its predecessor - apart from the lovable rogue main character - but if you liked that, you'll probably like this too.
