July 5th 1862

S. Cooper
Adjutant General
Army Confederate States
Richmond

Dear Sir:

I respectfully tender you my resignation of the office of Captain of Company H, Thirty-Third (33rd) Regiment of Mississippi Volunteers. In the last year I have been afflicted with disease of the Liver and enlargement of the spleen and after four months trial I find that I am wholly unfit for the duties of the Soldier. My health is now so shattered that life in camp will endanger? my life and being entirely incapacitated for the duties of the position I hope my resignation will be received.

W. S. Warren
Capt. Co. H 33rd Reg. Miss. Vols.

I certify that I have carefully examined Captain W. S. Warren of Company H 33rd Reg. Miss. Vols. and find him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier. Disease chronic splenitis and enlargement of the liver which greatly impair his health. I would recommend that (he) should be discharged.

A. McCarty
Asst.-Surg. Regiment
