1st Lieutenant Thomas L. Cooper Co. "F" 33rd Miss. Regiment having been examined by the Examining Board and [illegible] for promotion is hereby promoted to the office of Captain of said Company "F" 33rd Miss. Regt. to fill the vacancy occasioned by the death of Capt. J. W. Sharkey. He will take rank from the 21st July 1864.

I certify that J. W. Sharkey Capt. of Co. F 33d Miss. Regt Died July 21st of wounds recd. in battle July 20 1864. That Thomas L. Cooper was 1st Lt. of said Company "F" at the time of Capt. Sharkey's death having been examined & pronounced competent to fill the vacancy is entitled to the same by order of Seniority. His Co. numbers 27 enlisted men present for duty.
