ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Can accept women and children from anywhere. Boys over age 13 accepted on a case by case basis. 30-day length of stay generally; however, longer is possible.

INTAKE PROCEDURES:
Walk-ins welcome but prefer a phone call first. No fees but insurance is accepted for medical services.

SERVICE HOURS:
24 hours 7 days a week.

SUPPORTIVE SERVICES:
Group counseling, individual counseling, parenting classes, support in housing searches and financial assistance. In-house nurse practitioner available. Connections with local therapeutic centers if needed. Support groups (women and children) open to the public on Mondays and Tuesdays - free - called Promise Group. Call the office for details. Stranded traveler service. Outreach and support services in public housing sites. Elder domestic violence service - where they will go to homes and outreach. Some transitional housing and therapeutic children's services.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Boys over age 13 accepted on a case by case basis. There is no restriction on counties, they serve people nationwide. There is no set time limit on length of stay.

INTAKE PROCEDURES:
There is not a fee associated with the service and insurance is not accepted. Walk-ins are not accepted due to the shelter being a safe haven.

24 hours 7 days a week.

SUPPORTIVE SERVICES:
Therapeutic residential center including group counseling, individual case management, and specialized therapy for children. Parenting classes, life skills, and Bible classes. NO GROUPS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

Referrals to lawyers who handle cases in the area of law requested by applicant, for example, family law, divorce, criminal, etc. Applicant receives a thirty-minute consultation with a lawyer for $20. Phone consultation for $30 with three lawyers.

The Lawyer Referral service is a public service of the Knoxville Bar association. The Service recently received accreditation from the American Bar Association and although the Lawyer Referral Service does not offer legal advice, the Service is designed to assist you in finding the available resources to help you solve your legal problem.

Two options are available to clients through the Lawyer Referral Service:

  • A 1/2 hour in-office consultation can be arranged with an attorney who handles the specific area of law in which the client has a concern. There is a $20 referral fee paid at the time of the visit to the attorney's office

  • If the client would prefer to discuss the situation over the telephone with an attorney, the Lawyer Referral Service will supply the client with the names and phone numbers of (3) attorneys who handle cases in the area of law in which they have a concern. It will be the client's responsibility to contact the attorneys directly for a telephone consultation. The referral fee is $30 and must be prepaid by credit card or money order.

LAWLINE is a free public service program of the Knoxville Bar Association designed to help members of the community understand the law by means of tape-recorded information in easy-to-understand language. LAWLINE is accessible from a touch-tone phone 24 hours a day.

By dialing 522-5667, callers can listen to brief pre-recorded messages on a variety of topics. The messages aid in understanding common legal problems, recognizing potential legal problems and understanding how the justice system works. The service also provides information on where to go if further help will be needed. The three-to five-minute long messages are written in a straightforward, easy-to-understand manner using everyday language. Although it is not intended to replace the advice of an attorney or to provide specific legal advice, the service provides general information on over 70 topics.
