U.S. Senator Richard Lugar Speaks at Ceremony Inducting Tippecanoe Young Republicans Chapter

Lafayette, Indiana - May 20, 2001 - U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) was the keynote speaker at a dinner ceremony inducting the state's newest Young Republicans chapter May 19.

Senator Lugar told the crowd of Young Republicans, county officials, and guests of his experiences as a Young Republican preparing a campaign stop of then candidate General Dwight Eisenhower. He also encouraged the group to continue to work at the grassroots level to organize on behalf of the Republican party.

After the dinner Mike Dowler, Tippecanoe Young Republicans Chair, stated "We are deeply honored that Senator Lugar joined us to celebrate our rechartering. From his speech regaling us with stories of his own YR exploits years ago, it is clear that his support of our efforts is heartfelt. His presence has really energized our group, giving us a renewed sense of pride in our YR heritage."

Prior to the speech the Tippecanoe Young Republicans had a private reception with the Senator. At the reception Senator Lugar graciously spoke with individual members and posed for many pictures.
