Being a Good Host Assault Mechs

Introduction

While this is not a strategy guide to help you play the game itself better, it is a strategy guide to help you enjoy your games more when you are hosting the game.  What is presented here is something that should need to be said, but there are a surprising number of players out there that seem to forget that although MA is a great game, it is still that, a game.  Following these tips will help you become a well respected host that has no problem at all filling up his room and ensuring that your games and those of your friends will be enjoyable.

Rules

Make sure that everyone that is in the room understands the rules for the game that you are playing.  While you and others may know the game type that you are going to play.  You will still sometimes get someone in the room that does not the game type.  This is especially true for games such as Not It.  If someone in the room does not know the rules, then explain the rules to them.  Someone will probably make the comment of noob, but remember, everyone started off not knowing how to play the games.  This will also help to stop any in-game arguments that may have actually started out innocently with the new player attacking someone that they are not supposed to.  This would also be a good time to go over your policy on such things as spawn camping, team destruction when the game is really only Destruction, and any others.

Uneven Teams

There are times when teams can become uneven during a match.  This can range from the fact that someone was dropped when the game started, or to when someone is simply being killed so many times that they just drop.  If this happens, offer to play tag team with the team that has the most players.  This is done by someone staying in their spawn point until someone in their team is killed, then they enter back into the match while the person that just died waits for the next death.  You may need to do this with more than one member of the team.  Doing this keeps the match going so that everyone can enjoy it, and it will cause people to respect you for not raping their team, and they will want to come back to your games.

Spawn Camping

Spawn camping is when someone sits outside of an opposing team's spawn point and just waits for them to respawn to destroy them.  This causes more drops than just about anything else in the games.  By not allowing spawn camping in your games, you will again win the respect of the majority of your players and keep them coming back to your games.  If someone is spawn camping, ask them to stop, and if they don't, then you may want to ban them from your games from that point on.  You may lose a few players that way, but you will pick up more for not allowing it to happen.

Profanity and Insults

There is nothing wrong with a little smack talk with your opponents, especially if they are your friends, but a lot of players will take it too far.  You will sometimes have people in your games that insist upon using racial slurs and nothing but curse words for their vocabulary.  You may allow this in your games, but you will lose many players from your game, and you will find that a game of MA is not as fun when you play it alone.  By keeping the undesirables out of your game that constantly insult and curse, you will find that your games fill up quickly and you will be able to play more games.
