Areas of Practice

Divorce & Family Law — These cases cause a great deal of emotional turmoil. We are there to take care of our clients from start to finish. We will inform the client as to their rights and work diligently to achieve what the client desires. We have several handouts for the client to help them get through the trauma of divorce and custody issues. We have a lending library for clients who need additional support. Attorney Schneider is the past president and current member of the Family Law Section.

Parenting Coordinator — A Parenting Coordinator is a neutral third party appointed by the Court to oversee and resolve disputes that arise between parents in interpreting and implementing the parenting plan that is set forth in the Court's Order (a divorce judgment, postdivorce judgment or parental rights and responsibilities judgment). The parening Coordinator must as of July 1, 2009 be listed in the roster of guardian ad litem maintained by the Chief Judge of the Maine District Court or who holds one or more of the licenses listed in the rules and is listed on the roster after July 1, 2009 after completing the requirements set forth in the rules.

A Parenting Plan means a plan defining areas of Parental rights and responsibilities within the scope of a parenting coordinator's authority included in an order of the court.

A Court may appoint a Parenting Coordinator on the motion of one of the parties or on the Court's own motion with or without consent of the parties in a case in which:

  1. The parents have demonstrated a pattern of persistent inability or unwillingness to:
    1. Make parenting decisions on their own;
    2. Comply with parenting agreements and orders;
    3. Reduce their child-related conflicts; or
    4. Protect their child from the effects of those conflicts; and
  2. The appointment of the Parenting Coordinator is in the best interest of the child.
If there has been domestic abuse in the case a Parenting Coordinator appointment may be declined. There are no state funds allocated to pay a Parenting Coordinator so it is necessary that the Order include the parties's payment responsibilities.

A Parent Coordinator may make recommendations that interpret and implement the parenting plan. The P.C. acts as a manager of the plan, but also an educator to assist the parents with communication skills, help the parents to understand child development needs, to explain the effects of conflict on the child and to seek conflict resolution.

If you have an Order involving children where there is ongoing conflict, a Parent Coordinator may assist you and your children. Tobi Schneider has completed 2 additional trainings on Parent Coordination and is available to a ssist you in most counties of Maine.

Our office also handles other family law areas such as Determining Paternity and Parental Rights and Responsibilities, Protection from Abuse matters, Child Custody matters, Child Support and Post Divorce matters, such as Motion for Contempt and/or Motion to Enforce. We work expeditiously for our clients. Our clients come first.

Attorney Schneider has acted in the capacity of Guardian ad Litem in divorce, post divorce and parental rights cases and has received the State of Maine training as a GAL to be named on the court rosters.

Personal Injury — Why settle for less than what you deserve? We will walk you through the process, letting you heal from your accident while we handle your bills, and take care of the insurance company for you. There is no charge for the first office conference. We handle these cases on a contingent fee basis. We do not get paid unless you get paid.

Adoption — Our office handles Adoption matters. We work closely with the birth parents or the adopting parents, giving legal information as well as diligently completing all paper work needed for adoptions.
