International Relations


    ATO is working towards strengthening its foreign relations with international organizations, agencies and institutions, which relates to the organization's work. ATO has succeeded in proving its vital role not only on the regional level but more widely in the international arena, by way of which member cities can optimize their benefits.

    The wider international role and relationship of ATO with international organizations has enabled it to obtain the consultative status with the ECOSOC of the UN and its related agencies, consultative status with the Council of Europe and its related institutions.

    In addition, ATO has recently reviewed all protocols of agreement previously signed with international bodies in order to be engaged in new cooperation agreements that translates such partnerships into concrete programs for mutual benefits.

    It is worth noting that ATO, through its international position has contributed to the establishment of WACLAC (World Associations of Cities and Local Authorities Coordination) and became one of its founding members. H.E. Abdul Aziz Al-Adsani, ATO President, had presided WACLAC in its third presidency term and Dr. Wadad AlSuwayeh had served as WACLAC's Secretary General for the same period and remain WACLAC's Advisor at the present time.

    WACLAC'S Council of Presidents had repeatedly noted the outstanding achievements of WACLAC under ATO's leadership.
