The next morning I heard the alarm go off. I was so tired that it took me ten minutes to actually get out of bed. I finally reached over and turned off the alarm. I got out of bed and lazily walked into the bathroom to take a shower. I got dressed and went downstairs. I grabbed a Mocha Frappacino, my keys, my bag, and walked out my front door. I got in my car and started it. I drove out of my driveway and was on my way to work.
I wasn't the first one there. When I got inside the store, I saw Andrew.
"Hey girl," Andrew said as he saw me walk in.
"Hey," I said.
"You look great this morning," he said.
"Thanks." I walked into the backroom and put my stuff away. It was almost time to open, so I went back out front. At 10:00 am, I unlocked the doors. About an hour later, a customer walked in. As I was helping the customer, I noticed Andrew watching me. He watched me practically the whole morning.
"Whatcha doin' for lunch?" Andrew asked me.
"I dunno. I have nothing planned, yet," I responded.
"You wanna have lunch with me?"
"Um...sure, why not."
A few minutes later, Brian and Kevin walked into the store.
"Hey Amanda," they said together.
"Hey guys. What are you doin' here?" I responded.
"We came to see if you wanted to have lunch with us," Brian said as they reached the counter were I was standing.
"Aw, you guys are about five minutes too late. I've already got a lunch date."
"With who?" Kevin inquired.
"Andrew. And you guys can't ruin this for me. Ok?"
"Why would we do that?" Brian said.
"C'mon guys. Seriously. I really wanna get to know this guy. Please?"
"Ok, ok. We promise. Can we meet him?" Kevin asked.
"Yeah, I guess. But behave." I walked them over to where Andrew was stocking clothes. "Andrew, I want you to meet my best friends, Brian and Kevin."
"Nice to meet you, Andrew. Amanda has told us so much about you," Kevin said.
"Oh, really? I hope it was all good," Andrew said as I blushed.
"Well, they have to be going now. 'Cause they have other things to do," I said as I pushed Brian and Kevin towards the door.
"Well, aren't you the pushy one?" Brian said.
"Yes, I am. Later guys," I responded.
"Later girl," Kevin said.
"Later," Brian said too. Then they left. I went back over to Andrew.
"Ready for lunch?" he asked when I reached him.
"Yep. Lemme just go grab my stuff." I went in the back room and grabbed my bag. When I came out, Andrew was waiting at the door, ready to go. We went to the McDonald's in the mall and had lunch.
"I know, not the greatest first date. But what can a guy do on such short notice?" Andrew said once we sat down.
"Oh, so this is a date?" I asked.
"Well... yeah. At least that's what I thought."
"Ok, it's a date then."
"Good. So how do you know those guys?"
"Who?"
"Those guys you introduced me to at the store."
"Oh, them! Well, Brian lives next door to me. We like grew up together. I've known him since I was like five. And Kevin is Brian's cousin. Kevin visited Brian a lot. And I spent a lot of time with both of them. They were always there for me when I needed them. They're my best friends."
"That's cool."
"Yeah. So, did you just move here or have you lived here awhile and just been hiding from me?" I asked with a smile.
"I've been hiding from you."
"Where?"
"Mostly on the college campus."
"Oh, you're a college man. I'm just finishing my senior year of high school. I'm gonna stay around here and go to college."
"That's good. I'm gonna be in my second year this fall."
"What are you majoring in?"
"Um... right now, I guess computers. What are you going to major in?"
"Well, I got a scholarship in the music department. I'm a singer."
"Cool."
"Yeah, and Brian got one too. I'm so happy that we're going to go through college together too. Whoa! Look at the time. We gotta get back to work soon." We finished eating our lunches and then went back to work.
