Manuel's Take

By Manuel Gonzalez

Hello! Welcome to another report directly from Puerto Rico where the action never stops.

During the last couple of weeks, action went wild and crazy on both big local companies, the WWC and the IWA. But let’s go to the news.

WORLD WRESTLING COUNCIL

In my previous report, I reported that Carlos Colon, our local wrestling legend, was the TV Title holder. During the match he won the title, former champion Ray Gonzalez intended to blind Carlos with fire, but Carlos saw him and kicked the ball of fire into Ray’s face, burning it. González was so mad that he, wearing a mask to hide his burned face, demanded a match for the title where he put his hair as a way to get the title show. He was so smart that also asked that during the match he wanted a special guest referee.

On TV was hyped strong that Invader 1 would be the referee. On the night of the event the referee was presented. It wasn’t Invader as everybody thought. It was a newcomer named Yunque. Yunque played an important key as he ended being a heel referee and caused that Colón lost the title just a week after winning it. So now, Ray González is the TV champion.

Rico Suave lost his Caribbean Title against Ricky Santana. The referee was knocked and Wilfredo Alejandro, Rico’s dressing room partner, entered and pass the ‘amansaguapo’ (a hardwood) to Rico. But Santana managed and blinded Alejandro and a blinded Alejandro rock buttoned Suave and made his own friend an easy prey to a more experienced Santana, who just covered Suave for the win.

Konnan returned this past weekend and along with Carly Colón, the tag team champions, lost the match, but not the titles, to former champions Thunder & Lightning. An accident where Stacey Colón, manager of Carly and Konnan, get knocked out by accident, was a cause of Konnan madness because he carried her out to the dressing room and returned back with a shovel to attack Thunder & Lightning with it causing the dq. A rematch was scheduled soon.

Eddie Colón has successfully retained the Junior Heavyweight Title to Mr. Casanova, although Casanova has tried hard to win the title. Ray González seems to be interested in getting Eddie Colón to his stable as he watched this match seated next to the ring and an opportunity to attack Eddie was there and he simply watches the action and animated Eddie to continue the match. A member of the Colón family to turn against it? Let’s see what happens next.

Joe Don Smith has introduced a new team to the WWC scene. They are The Reggaetons. Who are they? They are the world famous Headhunters. At least one was in Puerto Rico last week as one of them is currently working Mexico. The one presented there seems to lose more than 50 pounds as he is suffering from diabetes. Haven’t seen them yet on TV as they debuted this past weekend.

Other regulars that continue on WWC are The Super Gladiators, Bronco, Mohammed Hussein and several others.

INTERNATIONAL WRESTLING ASSOCIATION

Primo Carnero lost his IWA Heavyweight Title to Ricky Banderas two weeks ago. Savio Vega was so mad that he fired Carnero. Banderas have been working hard to get the title from Carnero that he faced Apolo several weeks ago to be the number one contender for the title.

The Hardcore title has changed hands two weeks ago. Ozzie came to a match as champion. Huracán Castillo defeated him and when celebrating his win was attacked by Super Crazy, who won the title from him with the 24 hours seven days rule. Anarchy came and after a brief moment defeated Super Crazy. Anarchy left the area and in the front of the dressing room curtains was attacked by Agente Bruno, who pinned him and is actually the hardcore champion.

Stefano still the Junior champion and has his feud with the IWA’s referee Pelayito Vazquez, with who had worked on several lumberjacks matches during the last two weeks. To this feud Eric Alexander and Chicano has also taken part helping them.

Shane seems to be turning heel as he just turned from the typical celebration the babyface group does after their matches. Ricky Banderas, Castillo, Anarchy, Super Mark, among others, always celebrate their victory at the end of the show doing the fist salute that Los Boricuas did in WWE. But during the last two weeks Shane has not done it.

Shane and Skull tried to win the tag team title two weeks ago but Skull turned on Shane and attacked him. Now these two former friends are feuding each other.

Savio Vega’s reign as IWA’s General Manager seems to coming to an end as IWA’s owner Victor Quiñones and his lawyers seem to found a loop on Savio’s contract that gave him the IWA’s power.

The promotion will have his next big tour named APOCALIPSIS in mid July. Main show will be on Roberto Clemente Stadium at Carolina.

Starr Corporation, Chicky Starr and Victor the Bodyguard are still the tag team campions. Victor’s brother Angel is the manager of The United Nations, a team represented by New Zealand and Mexico with Ozzie and Super Crazy. But this team had several altercation between their member, all because Super Crazy caused Ozzie to lost the hardcore title to Huracán Castillo.

The female presence is a fact in IWA. Savio’s Vega personal secretary Abriela (secretary? She doesn’t know how to do a secretary job...) was attacked several times by former Savio’s fiancee, Habana, all when Abriela attacked Savio’s enemies recently.

Miguelito Perez does not want Habana on his People’s Army although all other members already accepted her. Why? Only Perez knows...

OTHER PROMOTIONS NEWS

The EBW will be celebrating a show this coming Saturday, June 29, at Dorado. They will be using indy talent and former WWC wrestlers Richie Santiago, Herbert Gonzalez, Black Boy and Verdugo will be part of the action.

IWC is a promotion based in Chicago IL but is of puertorrican wrestlers. His promoter has scheduled a show this coming Saturday, June 29, and will have former WWC wrestler Mr. X and BSP wrestler Killer Machine.

PRWA has changed hands and name. Former owner Metal Blade has become a minority owner and New Jersey-based wrestler Dynamic Kidd id now running the promotion. He changed the promotion’s name to Puerto Rico Championship Wrestling and has advertised wrestlers like King Kong Bundy, Tito Santana, Brutus Beefcake as part of the promotion, that will be having TV and will be doing the first big tour on July 26 to July 28 in the south and west of Puerto Rico.

That is all the events in Puerto Rico. A great update will be done in two weeks. Don’t forget to catch our news next time.
