Kerala is a beautiful state in the South-western corner of India. This divine land stretches from the gigantic Western Ghats to the Arabian Sea with its luscious tropical forests, paddy fields and evergreen coconut grooves. The everflowing rivers with its tributaries, the backwaters and lagoons are indeed a sight of this 'God's Own Country'. Kerala, rich in spices is also a land of colourful avenue of rich culture, heritage and people.
Legend has
it that Kerala was formed when Parashurama threw down his axe from Heaven
to the Sea while denouncing his weapons. Then a piece
of land emersed from the Sea thus forming this beautiful land of
Kerala.
History has it that Aryans drove the Dravidians from Central India to the South when they settled there. It was ruled by many rulers of various dynasties like the Chollas, Cheras, Pallavas and Pandyas. It was during the 15th Century, that Vasco-da-Gama discovered the sea route to India and landed in Kozhikode. Then came the French,Portugese, Dutch and English which led to the colonization of India and the Western Culture and Industrialization had its influence.
Anyway after India's Independence, the state of Kerala was formed on November 1, 1956 by combining the three princely states of Travancore, Cochin and Malabar. In 1957 the ever first COMMUNIST ministry came into power through Ballot and Mr E M S NAMPOOTHIRIPADU was the Chief Minister.
