As of 2002, Rotarians have helped provide 20,000 wheelchairs to people in 34 countries.
The Brockton Rotary Club successfully secured funding for 240 new wheelchairs to be shipped from China to Cape Verde to benefit survivors of polio and other debilitating diseases. The wheelchairs arrived in September 2003, although I was already in Japan, and have not received details about their distribution as of yet.
