A month after I was not nominated, I went back to my recruiter and lied, saying that I had resolved my two issues. I felt the issues that concerned my recruiter were not serious enough to keep me from being successful at Peace Corps service. My recruiter believed me and immediately nominated me, which led to the more intensive health review process. I did later address those issues, but only once I was sure I was going to Cape Verde. I told my grandparents, who accepted my decision, although they have been begging me to come back ever since. I didn’t overcome my fear of getting sick until I reached Cape Verde and was overcome with other things to worry about, such as getting over homesickness and making it through training. I also realized that the medical office is the best aspect of Peace Corps service.
