No Footprints

I've listened to the "footprints" poem
a million times or more
Of how when only one set shows
upon the sandy shore
It is the Lord carrying us
and taking on our load
And His are the only set
of footprints that showed.

But what if when we look
there are no footprints to be found?
All we see is plain and simple
sand upon the ground.
No imprints showing that our Lord
is carrying us through life
Helping us when we feel
we can not handle all this strife.

Where is my Lord now that I've fallen
and can't seem to get back up?
So tired and lonely
trying to deal with what seems
an overflowing cup.
Where are those footprints
in the sand
to tell me He's right there?
Helping me with problems
and showing that He really does care.

Does He have favorites, OH NO,
please tell me that's not so!
By why does life seem easier
for some people that I know?
And sometimes I just scream out loud
although it seems in vain,
but often it gets harder each day
to deal with all this pain.

And then it dawned on me
as I realize how simple could it be.
I wonder why I was so blind
that I truly did not see.
It must have been a lightning bolt
that one day gave me light,
Cause out of the clear blue sky,
I finally regained my sight.

I saw a fluffy white cloud
shaped like an Angel dear.
That helped me to understand
and see things oh so clear,
That when I saw no footprints
and so often wondered why,
My Lord carried me on Angel wings,
when He decided to fly.

Pathways

Memory builds a little pathway
That goes winding through my heart.
It's a lovely, quiet, gentle trail
From other things apart;
I only meet when traveling there
The folks I like the best
For this road I call remembrance
Is hidden from the rest;
But I hope I'll always find you
In my memory rendezvous
For I keep this little secret place
To meet with folks like you.

Seasons Of Grief

Fall
We that are in the fall of our grief
It is crisp, like the autumn wind
We watch grief fall upon us
Like the autumn leaves that falls to the ground
Our days grow longer
We experience the pain of loss

Winter
We that are in the winter of our grief
It is cold, and dark, and bleak
We wonder if we will ever feel warm again
Our days are short, and nights, lonely and long
We pray for warmth again

Spring
We that are in the spring of our grief
Our days grow brighter, and warm
We are amazed at the renewal of our souls
Our faith is like the new buds, and spring flowers
It waits to explode forth
To bring new color into our souls

Summer
We that are in the summer of our grief
We look in wonder at our renewal
It's like the new green grass
The leaves upon the trees
The sun shines down upon us
It brings warmth to our souls
We are splashed in glorious warmth
Our hope is restored

Online Friendship...

The true friends who we meet online
are a very special kind
They pierce your shields and see within
the corners of your mind.
They're always there when you're in need
with their power to discern.
They feel your pain.........they offer hope
and genuine concern.
We bare our souls, expose our hearts
and show our inner fears,
and then before you know it
the keyboard's stained with tears.
And if we could see them through that screen
then no one could deny
that to be a TRUE online friend
they too must surely cry.

The Genie in You

There's a genie deep within you;
He's been there from the start.
He's not in some old dusty lamp;
He lives within your heart.

He'll grant you all your wishes;
Make every dream come true;
For you alone command him--
He does what you say "Do!".

You tell him through your feelings;
Not just through words you say;
For what you truly feel within
Sends genie on his way.

So when your thoughts are fearful,
Instead of full of faith,
He still must do your bidding;
He knows no other way.

For he can only give you
What you believe is true.
No matter what the Truth may be--
Life gives your truth to you.

Now since you know this genie
Has always obeyed you,
You also know why all your dreams
Have never all come true.

But now you know the way to make
Your every dream come true;
You know what all the sages knew--
That genie, friend, is you!

The Garden Of Your Mind

Your mind is like a garden:
Whatever you plant will grow.
Your thoughts are seeds you're planting:
They produce, each after its kind.

And you, just like a gardener,
Can choose which seeds you'll plant.
And by the choice of seeds you sow,
You choose the harvest you will reap.

So don't plant seeds of lack or fear,
Disease, discord, or doubt.
Plant, instead, the seeds you want;
Then things you want will sprout.

This gift of choice is given to all,
And not to just a few.
The harvest, friend, is in your hands:
The crop depends on you.

So take this power which you've been given,
And use it every day,
To gain from life the good you want,
For you have found the way.

Butterflies

Butterflies, the symbol of new life and rebirth
are fluttering all around me.
They circle my head, land on my arms
and dance around my feet.
I've never seen so many butterflies.....
never seen so many kinds.
Delicate wings...colors like sky and grass
and the earth.
Their flight is a motion of freedom and
calmness and is so beautiful to see.
Please let death be a butterfly
with our loved ones soaring in an existence
that is too wonderful for us to comprehend!!!

Angels

There are those who believe,
So the story is told,
That at birth you receive
Your own Angel to hold.
You come into this world
On a wing and a prayer
And throughout your lifetime
She will always be there.
A guardian Angel
Who will guide what you do,
Her pure essence is love,
Sent to watch over you.

Footprints

One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking
along the beach with the Lord.
Across the sky flashed scenes
from his life,
for each scene,
he noticed two sets of footprints
in the sand, one belonging to him
the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of his life
flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times
along the path of his life
there were only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened
at the very lowest
and saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him
and he questioned the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said that once I decided
to follow you,
you would walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed
that during the most troublesome times
in my life there is only one set of footprints.
I do not understand why when I needed you most
you would leave me?"

The Lord replied
"My precious child, I love you and
I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering
when you see only one set of footprints
it was then that I carried you."

I'M HERE IF YOU NEED ME

Life's events don't always happen,
Just as they are planned.
For you this is a trying time,
I fully understand.
Moments like the present,
Tend to upset and confuse,
I'll try to give you my support,
In any path you choose.
I'll listen always with my heart,
I'll do what I can do,
I'll hope for brighter things to come.
My thoughts remain with you.
You know your situation.
You're alert to life's demands;
But don't forget I am here.
I'm one who understands!
I am Here.

HEARTPRINTS

Whatever our hands touch---
We leave fingerprints!
On walls, on furniture,
On doorknobs, dishes, books,
As we touch we leave our identity.

Oh please where ever I go today,
Help me leave heartprints!
Heartprints of compassion
Of understanding and love.
Heartprints of kindness and genuine concern.

May my heart touch a lonely neighbor
Or a runaway daughter,
Or an anxious mother,
Or, perhaps, a dear friend!

I shall go out today
To leave heartprints,
And if someone should say
"I felt your touch,"
May that one sense be...YOUR LOVE
Touching through ME.

Don't Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver lint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem worse,
That you must not quit.

Dream a Dream

Oh to dream a dream of many things, I cannot see.
I feel them in my heart and wish for them in my soul.
I dream of peace, not war. I dream of Love not hate.
I dream of freedom for souls in bondage.
I dream of bright futures.

I know that dreams aren't what we see,
but to dream a dream can make it be,
at least for a while.
So fear not the dream,
but let it take you
For the picture is bright
and the world is calm.
There is love, peace, freedom,
even if only in our dreams.

He Gathers Every Teardrop

Regardless of the circumstance,
Regardless of the ear,
Regardless of the pain we bear,
Regardless of the tear,
Our God is ever in control,
Performing as He should,
And He has promised in His Word
To work things for our good.
But as a loving Father would,
He sometimes lets us cry
To cleanse the hurt out of our heart,
To wash it from our eye.
Yet gently He gathers the tears
Within His hands to stay
Until He turns them into pearls
And gives them back someday.

A New Day Soon Will Dawn

If life seems at its lowest ebb
Because a day's gone wrong.
Let not your heart be troubled
For a new day soon will dawn.
And we can never be quite sure
Just what it has in store
Since each one is so different
Than the one just gone before
As it penetrates the darkness
With its soft and tranquil beams,
It calms even the most restless soul
And brings new hopes and dreams.
So when a day's been troubled
And the night is dark and long,
Lift up your fallen spirits
For a new day soon will dawn...

The Most Caring Child

Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia
once talked about a contest
he was asked to judge.
The purpose of the contest
was to find the most caring child.
The winner was a four year old child
whose next door neighbor
was an elderly gentleman
who had recently lost his wife.
Upon seeing the man cry,
the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard,
climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.
When his mother asked him
what he had said to the neighbor,
the little boy said,
"Nothing, I just helped him cry."
(Leo Buscaglia)

Children

Mothers, touch your children,
Fathers, hug them tight,
Let them know you love them
morning, noon, and night.
Put your arms around them,
hold them near to you,
Feel the beating of their hearts,
the life that you made new.
Roll around the floor with them,
tease and laugh and play,
Listen to what they'll tell you,
they have so much to say.
Take time to get to know them,
see the colors in their eyes,
Appreciate that person
that deep inside them lies.

Let them run their fingers through your hair
and down your face,
Fill their hearts with words of praise,
make home their favorite place.
Cuddle with them on the couch
and watch a t.v. show,
Sing with them or share a book
and help their world to grow.
Take a walk into the park,
hold each other's hand,
Smell the flowers, feed the ducks,
build castles in the sand.

Mothers, touch your children,
Fathers, hug them tight,
Show them what a gift they are,
to love them feels so right.

I SAID A PRAYER FOR YOU TODAY

I said a prayer for you today
And know God must have heard.
I felt the answer in my heart
Although He spoke not a word.
I didn't ask for wealth or fame
I knew you wouldn't mind.
I asked for priceless treasure rare
Of a more lasting kind.
I prayed that He'd be near you
At the start of each new day
To grant you health and blessings fair,
And friends to share your way.
I asked for happiness for you
In all things great and small
But that you'd know his loving care
I prayed the most of all.

Friends Are Like Angels

Our friends are like angels,
Who brighten our days.
In all kinds of wonderful,
Magical ways.
Their thoughtfulness comes,
As a gift from above.
And we feel we're surrounded,
By warm, caring love.
Like upside-down rainbows,
Their smiles bring the sun.
And they fill ho-hum moments,
With laughter and fun.
Friends are like angels,
Without any wings.
Blessing our lives,
With the most precious things.

Friendship Wish

Somewhere out there,
There's someone who needs a smile.
Somewhere out there,
There's someone who needs a touch of your and.
There's someone who needs a kind word.
Some understanding.
Forgiveness.
A whisper of appreciation.
Somewhere out there,
There's someone who needs something to eat.
A place out of the cold.
A pair of warm socks.
Somewhere out there,
There's a soul who needs to be remembered.
Just remember,
Even that will do.
As you live your life from this moment to next,
Please think about those whose paths you cross.
Even if they stand right in front of you,
Take one little step that can,
And will,
Make all the difference, in the world.

A PRAYER FOR CHILDREN

We pray for children
Who sneak Popsicles before supper,
Who erase holes in math workbooks,
Who can never find their shoes,
And we pray for those
Who stare at photographers
from behind barbed wire,
Who can't bound down the street
in a new pair of sneakers,
Who never "counted potatoes,"
Who are born in places
we wouldn't be caught dead in,
Who never saw a circus,
Who live in an X-rated world.
We pray for children
Who bring sticky kisses
and fistful of dandelions,
Who hug us in a hurry
and forget their lunch money.
And we pray for those
Who never get dessert,
Who have no security blanket
to drag behind them,
Who watch their parents watch them die,
Who can't find any bread to steal,
Who don't have any rooms to clean up,
Whose pictures aren't on anybody's dresser,
Whose monsters are real.
We pray for children
Who spend all their allowance before Tuesday,
Who throw tantrums in the grocery store
and pick at their food,
Who like ghost stories,
Who shove their dirty clothes
under the bed
And never rinse out the tub,
Who get visits from the tooth fairy,
Who don't like to be kissed
in front of the car pool,
Who squirm in the church or temple,
and scream into the phone,
Whose tears we sometimes laugh at,
And whose smiles can make us cry,
And we pray for those,
Whose nightmares come in the daytime,
Who will eat anything,
Who have never seen a dentist,
Who aren't spoiled by anybody,
Who go to bed hungry,
and cry themselves to sleep,
Who live and move, but have no being,
We pray for children who want to be carried,
And for those who must be,
For those we never give up on, and
For those who never get a second chance,
For those we smother,
And for those who will grab the hand of
Anybody kind enough to offer it.
(Ina J. Hughs)

THINGS AS THEY ARE

If you want a thing bad enough
to go out and fight for it,
Work day and night for it,
Give up your time and your peace
and your sleep for it,
If only desire of it makes you mad enough
never to tire of it,
Makes you hold all other things
tawdry and cheap for it-
If life seems all empty and useless without it,
And all that you scheme and you dream is about it,
If gladly you'll sweat for it,
fret for it, plan for it,
Lose all your terror of God and man for it,
If you'll simply go after that thing that you want,
With all your capacity, strength and sagacity,
Faith, hope and confidence, stern pertinacity,
If neither cold, poverty, famished and gaunt,
Nor sickness nor pain of body or brain
Can turn you away from the thing that you want,
If dogged and grim you besiege and beset it,
YOU'LL GET IT !
