Sangschule - the West Lothian Traditional Song Group

Programme for January to April 2020

We meet in the Staff-room, Linlithgow Academy, Braehead Road, Linlithgow EH49 6EH.

Full details and maps on our Home Page. We meet from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm.

Wed 8th January 2020

Non-tutor night – an evening of cheery songs to welcome the turning of the year.

Wed 15th January 2020

We are delighted to welcome back Jo Miller, who brought us several great songs last year. For those who have not had the pleasure of working with her, we explained last year that Jo is a singer and fiddler who has performed as a soloist and in groups such as The Whistlebinkies. She has worked in music education for over 25 years, has led community song groups, and taught at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) for 15 years.

Wed 22nd January 2020

Our second session (and, sadly, our last this term) with Jo Miller.

Wed 29th January 2020

It's that time of the year again - an evening of enjoying songs by Rabbie Burns.

Wed 5th February 2020

A pleasure to welcome back Scott Gardiner, whose wealth of songs and whose knowledge about the lives of former farming communities always makes for an absorbing evening.

Wed 12th February 2020

A Sangschule-led session on 'Songs about childhood'. We will also have a wee practice of the songs we will be singing at the Muckle Sing (see 29th February below). But even if you won't make it to the Muckle Sing, you can still enjoy working up the songs!

Wed 19th February 2020

Scott Gardiner again!.

Wed 26th February 2020

An evening polishing up some songs for the Muckle Sing, and also enjoying other songs from our songbooks.

Sat 29th February 2020

The Muckle Sing with guest tutor Christine Kydd. Bringing together 60+ singers, both members of community choirs and people who don't sing regularly in public, this is a great day of learning and enjoying songs and arrangements, with the benefits of safety in numbers - very hard to go far wrong when you are singing in a big group! Queen Margaret Hall, Blackness Road, Linlithgow, from 10am to 5.30pm. More information shortly.

Wed 4th March 2020

Our last session with Scott Gardiner this spring.

Wed 11th March 2020

A Sangschule-led session - songs about Scotland's industries (past and present). We shall hold a short AGM in the tea break.

Wed 18th March 2020

Wed 25th March 2020

Wed 1st April 2020

The arrival of Coronavirus in Scotland is already affecting every one of us, and Sangschule has reluctantly agreed that we will stop meeting with immediate effect. This is three weeks earlier than planned, and we hope to be able to restart as intended after the summer. Not a lightly-taken decision, but it has been noted that an activity based on breathing in deeply and then exhaling all the air in your lungs in a relatively enclosed space seems very unwise!

We very much hope that all Sangschule's members and friends keep well and safe.
