I often receive requests for the value of certain beer bottles that people have either found or come across. This page contains messages to this site from early 2003, but I'm sure the party would appreciate hearing from you. For more halp, try browsing auction sites such as www.ebay.com Bottles less than 30 years old often sell for just $1-3. Below are some comments made by other collectors as well as bottles for sale. It was passed between my great-great uncles (one was President Roosevelt's financial adviser) as a "gag" gift at Christmas for several years. Because both were tee-totallers it was never opened. Old bottles for sale - 3/23/03 I have old beer bottles for sale. Reply if you are interested. Mike E. Stroh's bottle - 3/23/03 Dear Ray, I have a very interesting beer bottle. It is not old, in fact it is maybe circa 1992 or 93. It is from Stroh's Beer here in Tampa, FL before they went out of business. It is amber with paper lables, 12 0z. The bottle belonged to my late father who happened to have drank the contents and noticing that there was something in the bottle noticed that it has a molden glass string on the inside of the bottle from one side to the other. Apparently, this was the mistake of whomever manufactured these bottles for Stroh's, but niether the manufacturer or Stroh's caught the molden glass string. Had the string of glass broken while drinking the contents, one heck of a lawsuit would have resulted. My son suggested to put it on ebay, I have my reservations, what do you think. Is this a common occurence or a rarity? Felix G. Sorry Raymond, as far as I know there is no definitive book on bottle values. Kovel and others mention beer bottles in their "price guides" but the listings are very limited and values questionable. At beer shows, I find that old embossed bottles from defunct breweries usually run from $15-$25; bottles after prohibition with paper labels are cheaper with only a few exceptions. Many sell for only $2 or $3 bucks at beer shows. I guess the simple answer is they are worth what someone will pay. I'll visit your web site. -- Stan Galloway, editor, American Breweriana Journal. I also get requests for values, but I don't know of anywhere that has values on bottles. It's hard enough to find them for cans!
