misc. art

Welcome to the gallery page. From time to time during updates, I've displayed certain pieces of what I like to think of as art. Most of the time, the pieces stay up until I update again (which is, in my case, usually about a month or so), and then are dismissed out of hand. I decided that I might as well put up all six or seven of the pieces in one place for you to enjoy.

Warning to those with slow connections: These files aren't huge, but there are a few of them on the page, so it may take you a while to see this one.

"The Supafly Bee" and "Snow Bunny" - inked lineart coloured in photoshop
A couple of small characters I came up with during a slow day at work.

"When nerds go a-Ravin'" - inked lineart coloured in photoshop
This was my first commissioned comic. I volunteered to do this one for a Canadian amature 'zine all about the Rave scene. I was fairly proud of how this one turned out.

"The Jedi's Last Stand" - inked lineart coloured in photoshop
I think this is a really neat piece. I'd been wanting to do a lightsaber picture sometime, ever since seeing this tutorial on PolyKarbon. I think it turned out pretty well. Coincidentally, Gabriel from Penny Arcade did a similar piece, featuring the same basic pose and situation, and it was a Star Wars pic. That was kind of a neat coincidence.

"Gunsmoke and Hellfire - page 1" - inked lineart coloured in photoshop
This started out as sort of a self-indulgent doodle, then blossomed into what might have been the first page of a comic book. I thought it looked kind of neat.

"Alienation sucks" - pencil on paper
I have to apologize for the shittiness of the quality of this one. Pencil doesn't scan too well with my scanner, but you get the idea. This started out as yet another quick sketch, but ended up turning into a three-hour project. This sort of sums up how I felt in grade 6. Yep, that's right. It's an artistic angst drawing.

"Cheshire Cat Tattoo" - pencil on paper
My friend Flo came up to me one day asking if I knew how to draw the Cheshire Cat from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. At first, I wondered if he meant the Disney version, but I quickly found out he wanted something grittier. So I gave him gritty. What you have here is a cat loosely inspired by the one in American McGee's Alice. Neat, eh?

"Crack Smokin' Monkey" - inked lineart coloured in photoshop
After seeing the Cheshire Cat, another friend of mine, Jason, specifically asked me for what he called a "Crack Smokin' Monkey". After a lot of effort, multiple drafts, and some crossed wires, we ended up with something loosely based on the style of the Gorillaz, an awesome band, in my opinion.
