Cory
was
call up by the Detroit Lions as an unpaid
agent. He completed his schooling from All-American at Hutchinson (Minn.)
High School. In his eventual two years in the school he completed
175-of-330 passes for 2,414 yards and 14 touchdowns. As a senior he
escorted his squad to the section 4A title. He is also a three-time
letter subjugator in baseball playing third base. 30 years old Cory
has to its credit University of Minnesota career records with 539
pass completions for 6,834 yards and 40 touchdowns. During Minnesota
annuals in 1984-87 he was only one step behind quarterback Rickey
Foggie (7,312 total yards) with scores of 6,608 yards total offense.
For quartet of times he was the preference of all-Big 10 Conference
academic team. He also added a feather to his cap by winning GTE/CoSIDA academic all-district V team. He
completed 200 of 352 passes (56.8 percent) for 2,578 and 14
touchdowns. He earned Big Ten offensive player-of-the-week honors
for interweaving 23 of 27 attempts for 285 yards with two touchdowns
and dashed for a game-winning one-yard score with merely 46 seconds
left in a 23-21 decision over
Illinois. |
