Campaign Description:
The Sentinels are a group of heroes brought together by a private
foundation to aid the police in cases they are unequipped to handle and
the occasional case the police are unaware of or think unimportant.
Importance of Characters:
Important. While not the most powerful team in the world the Sentinels
are the most powerful team in the state of Alabama and are central to
the campaign. There may be an occasional crossover with NPC heroes
and/or with characters from other campaigns.
World Description:
The Global Guardians Universe is a four-color comic book world full of
larger than life characters. Technology is more advanced that the
real world, and magic is real. Aliens and creatures of legend roam
the earth.
The Story So Far:
When State Senator Bill Hawkins was assassinated during a speech in
Mobile in 1995; it threw the state into chaos. Despite security measures
someone had managed to slip through and kill the Senator and no one
could figure out how. Speculation was rampant, some suspected it was an
inside job, and others suspected the security measures had been shoddy
and no one wanted to admit it.
Then word spread on the street the Senator had been killed by a
metahuman assassin hired by a local crime syndicate. Panic ensued as the
public no longer trusted the police to protect them. Metahumans were
viewed with fear and distrust and even the few lone heroes who had been
operating in the state became outcasts.
Nearly ten years later the Carver Foundation laid the groundwork to
reestablish the public’s sense of security. It built a base in Mobile
and set out to recruit the best of the state’s independent heroes hoping
to reestablish the community’s trust in metahumans and to provide
support for the police in dealing with metahuman criminals.
Local Relations:
The Sentinels are viewed with a mixture of awe and distrust by the
general population. The Senator’s assassination and the inability of his
security forces to have even detected the threat are still in people’s
minds when they think of those possessing unusual abilities. The police
are neutral, with some viewing the new team as a threat and others
relieved to have the help.
Morality: For the
most part the morality of the campaign will be black and white though at
times characters will have to make decisions that cross boundaries. When
faced with difficult decisions the characters should always try to be
the good guys.
Realism: The
Sentinels will be a fairly realistic campaign but with some opportunity
for cinematic efforts. Characters will not die unless they prove
themselves too stupid to live or are going out in a blaze of glory.
Outlook: Mostly
positive, but with some dark moments. The good guys will usually win,
but there are no guarantees.
Seriousness: The
campaign will be fairly serious, though a creative player will find
chances to inject some humor through the creative use of powers, and
character interaction.
Continuity: The
game will be entirely serial. Player actions in one scenario will have
effects on later scenarios, and continuity will be enforced. Adventures
will move linearly through time, villains will remember who you are and
what you did to them, and the press will print your exploits. |
Building a Character for the
Mobile Sentinels |
The Mobile Sentinels are
a superhero team recruited to handle situations the local police are
unable or unwilling to handle. The only requirement the foundation
places on potential members is they sincerely want to help people. They
will be expected to refrain from behavior that could reflect badly on
the foundation or metahumans in general. Both background and character
sheets should be submitted for consideration at the same time.
All Sentinels should follow these guidelines.
Starting Points:
200
Maximum
Disadvantages: 150
Maximum Points From
One Category of Disadvantages:
50
Maximum Active Points
For Any One Power: 75
Special Restrictions:
- Characters may take up to 75 points in Psychological Disadvantages
instead of the normal limit of 50 points.
- It is advised characters make use of all 150 points of
Disadvantages
- The 75 active point limit does not include reduced endurance.
- All characters must take the Mobile Sentinels Package.
- All characters should have some form of the Psychological
Limitation Code vs. Killing. This can be any of the following;
- Reluctant to Kill for 15 points
- Will Not Kill for 20 points
- Code vs. Killing for 20 points.
- If the character is a conversion from a previous Guardians
character the character may keep any experience points previously
earned.
