July 1904

July 1, 1904  Very hot day - Hottest for summer.  Coughlan in country ploughing ground for celery.

July 4, 1904  Received strawberry plants from Greens & set same in hot bed.

July 5, 1904  Day off - at farm all day digging trenches for celery.

July 6, 1904  Meeting of S.S. (Sunday School) Teachers held tonight at which resignation of Mr. Horwood was accepted.

July 7, 1904   ------- Day - half holiday.  Went by train to farm in the afternoon - Brought 200 celery plants with me & set same.

July 10, 1904  Sunday Fine day - Rev. Mr. Ward preached in the morning & Mr. [Harry G.] Coppin at night.  In the afternoon in S. School children were given envelopes in which to place their contributions for picnic.  After church Miss Wiggins, Temperance Lecturer addressed crowd in Gower St. Church.

July 11, 1904  Fine all day but commenced to rain very hard at night.  Father & girls went to farm today to live.  Lecture in (Methodist) College this evening by (Miss) Wiggins.

July 12, 1904  Fine day - planted Tomato plants in garden this evening - After went to meeting of Picnic Committee in George Street (Methodist Church) & decided to have picnic August 11th.

July 14, 1904  Thursday half holiday.  Went to Picnic by train to Mount Pearl - foggy with heavy mist all the evening - Strawberries just getting ripe at farm.

July 16, 1904  Splendid  - Went to farm last night & slept there during the night while father came to town.

July 17, 1904  Sunday - Very fine day & warm - Went to Poor House (or Asylum) in the morning & had very good service.  In the afternoon S.S.(Sunday School) children met in church to hear Miss Wiggins the temperance lecturer,  who also gave an address in church after the evening service.

July 27, 1904  Returned from trouting trip by train at 7:30 & and got off at farm.  Left on 19th & had a very good time,  weather being fine all the time.

July 28, 1904  Thursday half holiday.  Went to funeral of Mr. Steer in the afternoon then went to farm.  First contingent of Old Home Weekers arrived today.

July 30, 1904  During the last few days the weather has been very warm - Went to farm last night & slept there all night,  got up at 5 o'clock in the morning picking strawberries.

July 31, 1904  Sunday - Very fine and warm.  Went to farm after Sunday School to have tea there.  Rev. Altwood preached in church at night.
