Captain & Crew
Quality, customer service and a safety are the #1 requirements of Island
Coast Boat Tours Inc. and this is reflected in the captain & crew of the
MV "Against the Wind" who are qualified, mature, and friendly individuals.
Dana Russell is the captain and owner of the vessel, MV "Against the Wind"
which is utilized in the excursions conducted by Island Coast Boat
Tours. Dana was born on Grand Manan Island and has been a resident of
the island all his life. Since graduating from the Grand Manan High
School, Dana has been a commercial fishermen and now possesses over 23
years of experience in the Bay of Fundy area.
In order to have the privilege of acting as captain of the tour vessel
Dana must meet rigorous requirements by the Canadian Coast Guard. He
possesses various navigational certificates as well as First Aid and CPR
certificates.
Captain Russell narrates all tours personally with the aid of a public
address system. His wisdom of the waters and movement of the feed and
tide give him a sixth sense of where he can sight whales for his anxious
passengers. With a policy of "whale sighting guaranteed or money
refunded", his experience as well as an abundance of whales has resulted
in a sighting success of 99.8% since 1991. (Island Coast Boat Tours has
refunded money on only 2 tours since 1991).
During the excursions Captain Russell is assisted by one deckhand. This
individual also possesses CPR and First Aid certificates and their duties
are first and foremost - customer service!
* Mention must be made of the individuals who are not actively employed
on the tours vessel but who are an important aspect of the company.
These are the individuals who initially answer questions, take
reservations and send out information packages to interested and
potential clients. Once again, customer service is their #1 priority!!
